red five and advanced tie?

Ok so when I'm playing fighter squadron online, whenever I pick up the hero token and I get the choice of ships, no matter what I choose it always defaults to either the millennium falcon or slave 1, I cannot use red five xwing or advanced tie. I have the basic edition with no dlc. When I get the choice neither ship is greyed out or has an X to indicate that ship is already in use by another player. Has anyone else had this problem, as it happens every time I play?
