i may have found a possible fix for this, stumbled across it whilst trying to find out why the CPU usage was so high on 1 core. it will probably only apply to pre 2019 CPUs and more likely effect intel more than AMD

now, before you do any of this, youll need to assess your own system vulnerability on how likely you are to be exposed to meltdown and spectre. lucky, the tool allows you to turn off and back on, so maybe turn off for gaming and turn back on once finished
this fix alone was night and day for me!
the game has always ran good, but i had stutters around capital ships and cruisers, but, my system BSOD last week mid game, since then it was just an absolute stutterfest, i tried different ram, overclocks, standard clocks, low settings, clean boots, new drivers, old drivers, page files......... nothing worked. this was also AFTER the latest update, but im not blaming the update yet as i suspect iv still got an issue here on my end.
id noticed high CPU usage on 1 core(80%) but not enough or in any correlation to frame drops, stuttering ever 3 seconds and a nightmare around larger ships
removing the spectre and meltdown update made the game buttery smooth, almost locked at 90fps and minimal frame drops around larger ships. its now better than it ever was, but i suspect there is still my original issue that hasnt been resolved hahaa. its worth a look folks but do your homework 1st on this.
ok, on origin CPU usage,
im getting 10% CPU usage on origin whilst playing the game, doesnt sound like much, and on a 6 core 12 thread CPU it isnt...... however, its like 60% plus usage on 1 core....... for origin!!! this alone is going to cause issues for older CPU and needs to be addressed EA.
it shouldnt be a system hog. maybe iv got a config wrong but id advise everyone to check origin CPU usage whilst in game, as it seems to be a little high. it shouldnt be using 1% of my CPU
my specs
I7 5820k
16 gig quad channel 2666mhz ram
gtx 1080ti
many SSDs

@mickeeiemouse69 I may give it a shot. One question though: Since I'm on a Mac Pro using Bootcamp, will Inspectre disable the security protection on the Mac side as well? I.e. is it operating at the OS level or actually changing firmware/BIOS settings?
I'm still inclined to believe it's a game issue since it didn't happen for me in 1.0, and I have absolutely zero stuttering or frame drops of any kind anywhere else, even though my system technically falls well below the minimum requirements in the CPU department.

mate i couldnt tell you, alls ill say is dont take any unnecessary risk
im thinking its a game issue or hardware issue on my end, but this did help alot. with you having the 2x CPU setup, its going to be double the trouble
as for CPU, yeah, im getting to the limit of what it can handle, the game wants IPC and raw GHZ over core count.
the only thing it disables onmy end is the patches for spectre and meltdown, and again, it can be turned back on.
maybe disconnect from internet, disable patch, run game and test in single player vs AI, and see what happens. i do get extra CPU usage in single player over coop for AI reasons, but should be a good test and safe enough. dont forget to run as admin, and restart PC after turning patch on/off
hope it helps 😉

@DarthZiplock unfortunately there is nothing we can help with, using Mac and bootcamp to play is out side of our support for the game.

@EA_Atic Uhhhhh... seriously? I’m running natively on fully-supported Windows hardware. Pretend it’s not a Mac, and there’s literally almost zero difference. Intel E5620 processor, AMD RX580 GPU, Western Digital SSD.
That’s the beauty of Bootcamp. It’s all native. Really the only drivers that are different are wireless and audio, and I’m using an external USB audio interface. So really nothing about my system should be foreign.
So I’d appreciate it if you’d continue to help out here.
