Ship Balancing Feedback
This is a great game to succeed the X-Wing vs Tie fighter era. The feel of flying the ships and the sounds are great. I’ve been playing the dogfights quite a bit, and am often the top player in the g...
I’m an imp player so maybe I can share my experiences with you new reps=)
if we are talking about total health for each shop class for both factions, reps have the advantage. I have often lamented whenever I play my tie interceptor. I get one shotted all the time against A-wings. If you look at the A-wing vs TIE Interceptors, your combined hull + shields actually outclass our raw hull’s health. On top of that your shields regenerate while our hull doesn’t.
How us imps have to deal with this is to overcharge our weapons to take any rep ships down before going down ourselves. It’s all about power management for us. But this doesn’t help in our interceptors because we really die too easily.
after hours of frustration I decided to try the TIE bomber build and a tip I can give you to deal with us, is to keep a distance from behind us and out manoeuvre us. Speed and agility is your key. If you try to fight us head on in a full health jousting showdown you will almost guarantee lose.
its all about understanding the strengths and weaknesses of each faction and class and how to approach the problem. As an imp, I have always found rep ships extremely tanky, and on top of that, technically a free health regen (shields Regen).
maybe you guys can consider using Y-wings too..?
Good info. I haven’t seen as many people using the ywing as the tie bomber. If bombers are viable in dogfight mode, something isn’t right. Overall it’s great fun, just never seen a Star Wars game to date where tie fighters have that much health. Not even going back to the 90’s era on pc. I think the rep ships are far easier to hit than the ties are, which counts for quite a bit. An additional game mode for interceptors and fighters may help. I’m surprised it wasn’t in the game as a mode. It doesn’t feel much like a dogfight with the tie bomber turrets in the game. I started using those barrage rockets in addition to overcharged blasters. Helps with the people just sitting there circling the health recharge with a tie bomber.
I get where you’re coming from =)
Game Balance in a game like this filled with rich lore don’t usually go well. It really is difficult to balance factions with a backstory of ships made of paper yet superior in numbers going against fewer Technologically advanced ships.
Would anybody know of any successful games which did just that? The balance of asymmetrical factions/teams? Evolve comes to mind but I wouldn’t call that game wildly successful.
Imp player here as well.
I initially was getting roasted as a TIE pilot in multiplayer, i felt helpless just getting murdered 8 to 10 times a match while struggling to get 1 single kill. Certainly felt the other way like rebels were OP'd.
Finally decided to start trying out some of the other components, took the practice sessions seriously trying the timed trials, and mapping all the buttons properly on my HOTAS (my 5 year old HOTAS still works!), including learning how to use the targetting wheel to quickly select/switch between Objective/All Enemies/My Squadmates/Targets Attackers. And the Ping command is something i just started to learn how to use as well.
My last 3 matches now, i've come in 1st and tied for second twice on the kill count (8-5 and 7-3 respectively). Targetting rep ships chasing my teammates, pinging the Ace on the other team to let my squad know who to target and overwhelm while i keep bandits off their tails. Power manage engines to speed in, overcharge lazers, fire volley, missiles, switch to engines, bug out, rinse repeat.
I'm still a neophyte and im sure im going to get my * handed to me some more as my Interceptor feels like it'll blow up if you sneeze on it, but hey.. just keep practicing, don't fly head to head with rep ships, and communicate with your squad. This game i learned more than anything, it will PUNISH you if you lone wolf it. Target your best squad mate and shadow his wing. If you can keep up with their maneuvers, you'll learn how they hunt, get some assists or kills of your own.
The main thing im still trying to learn is the map layouts. I find i can never get my bearing enough to know where to find the floating repair zone in time.
