Star Wars Battlefront opinion/review?

Ok, I rarely do this but wanted to get a chain going about peoples thoughts on the game.  It would be nice if people kept it civil but it is the internet 🙂.

FYI, I am a Battlefield on PC player and I play on harcore servers.  Not an ego thing ( I am only an average player) I just like the interface there.  No minimap. No hit detection. No 3rd person, no auto health reg  etc. I would hope that there would be a hardcore mode on some servers for Battlefront but not counting on it.

My first feel for this game is that it is designed for consoles, (nothing wrong with that, larger audience) and for a target audience in the 15-25 year old range. I am nowhere near that.  As everyone has said the graphics are pretty, the sound efx are from the movies and the music is John Williams ( although I hope the game has the option to kill it as I never listen to music in the game. It distracts from the environment.)  I.E. it looks and sounds like Star Wars.

The pod drop plays like a domination game on BF3,4 with the pod cap similar to rush. In dom the points are never completely locked down so the game can have a lot more ebb and flow there versus the format here.  A team can make a comeback in dom easier.  Never saw it in Beta play as time limit/cap limit tended to prevent it. Domination was more enjoyable but Pod Drop was at least more balanced for winning then Walker assault.

In Walker Assault I never saw the rebels win.  I talked with a friend who said it happened once for him. I think the biggest problem here is form design consideration. ( of course unless they want the empire to win this one most of the time. To be like the movie). The decision not to use squads.  In battlefield decent to good squads can frequently turn a game around or dominate it.  Team coordination can prop up defense.  Also a good squad can coordinate fire in order to slaughter those stupid hero units ASAP.  Sorry, a bias there as obviously I hate hero units and would hope they can be turned off on servers. Public servers do tend to draw more players who dont care or want to play in squads correctly although. ( Another bias is I hate third person view so you can figure my complaints there for vehicles). Vehicles as pickups rather than spawns is also a poor design choice. You have to memorize the map for those drop spawns then go through the stupid animation of calling it in.  I was sick of that after 2nd time.  Same as knife animation in Battlefield. It got old fast.  Much prefer the melee hit in Battlefront there.  Vehicles are a pain in the * if there is no effective constant counter for them, The engineer class in Battlefield with anti armor and anti air roles is an example.  This is missing here unless you happen to find a pickup somewhere and luckily it is a rocket.  Hopefully it is a carded weapon so I could at least keep it as equipment to help deal with walkers and such.  The mode/map felt as bad as some of the poorly designed rush maps in Battlefield.

I am not a fan of the purchasing cards thing. This is obviously a set up for a type of freemium thing.  EA tries this in Battlefield to get people to buy battlepacks.  I assume tied more directly to your "kit" my encourage this more for them.  Yes you can earn them but for those without the patience.......  Also probably going to set up a uniform design thing a la Team Fortress 2 and their hats.  Not my thing so no comment if they do.

The single player was fun. I could see me playing that a bit.  If there isn't a variety of maps though it will get old fast. I did encounter my first glitch there. The last walker disappeared and I couldn't finish the round. I think it fell off the cliff and got destroyed.  The game still thought it was there and wouldn't end as such. lol.  Maybe they will introduce different single player modes into future DLC.  A speeder race through Endor hmmm........

Dont get me wrong by the comments above. There was some fun there in the game.  For me though it felt more Fluff then filling.  I am really hesitating to buy it from start.  I might pick it up next year when it goes on sale for sure but not at the get goas of now.

Beta somewhat inclined at UT-like shooters. Obviously the game is arcade. For first look it was nice when characters resilent and mobile. (if we dont want too much realism here ofc, because inability to prone, iron sight, and may be absence of vehicle weakspots might be not good)   Jetpacks/shields too.

Hovever, there's no teamplay cards like in BF series.

    Grafics/performance quite nice.

It's very good that it doesnt require battlelog, I hope i will not require origin too.

Card themselves... i'm worried. They might turn into battlepacks for cash or something even more extensive. In fact, i'm absolute sure of it.

I honestly just think the whole game kinda stinks. Like it's OKAY, it's not a completely horrible game, but dang is it so underwhelming by comparison to the previous games. Also it's rather annoying in a lot of ways like:

    - The Empire is clearly overpowered on the one beta game mode that was actually almost fun.
    - The PC version actually forgot to include voice chat or the ability to mute anyone.
    - The new game modes just weren't fun.
    - The new way you enter vehicles is surprisingly very lame. Rather than finding vehicles physically on the maps, you gotta enter them through some weird hologram thing that is very easy to miss. I honestly had no idea about them during my first thirty minutes of playing and thought all the fighters and AT-ATs and whatever were just bots.

I didn't really try that other game mode where you run around a small area trying to capture random pods, but I don't think I really missed much because I didn't have any fun with it the one time I did play it and couldn't seem to connect to another match that played on it either.

Also locking each map to one specific game mode (that's what's happening right? I really haven't looked too much into this game and just went with what I saw in the beta) just seems to not be worth it and like a horrible idea in general really. Makes it feel like there's actually less content and less things to really do.

Anyway the major problem I have with it is just isn't anything like or even anywhere as fun as the previous Battlefront games at all, and like, those games are ANCIENT like holy cow they're so dang OLD, but honestly they just seem to have more to them with what you're doing in each battle by comparison to this one.

This new one is very pretty looking though. Like stunningly good looking. Kinda just makes me wish they just made an HD version of Battlefront 2 instead really.
