I'm gonna get chewed up for this, but I don't entirely agree. I don't think this game is unplayable using mouse and keyboard, I just completed it twice, and didn't have too much trouble with it, but I agree, the mouse keyboard settings are disappointing. I don't understand your comment about mouse-look, are you not using WASD to move? I don't even touch those arrow keys.
I played the last two releases of star wars battlefront, so I guess I'm used to the interface, and I DO APPRECIATE that they kept the controls the same. I refuse to use a console controller. As a grown up I feel like I'm not actually playing video games if I'm using a keyboard mouse or joystick 😉 but I did have to remap some of the keys. 1,2, and 3 are extremely uncomfortable to reach, I remapped Slow to T, Push to G, and Pull to V, it turned out to be much easier. I also was able using a proprietary app for my Microsoft mouse to remap the back key on my mouse to Z.Z to roll backwards, that was most helpful.
Things I struggle with are as follows:
- X and C are very uncomfortable to hit to switch between single and double LS blades. A toggle option would be so much simpler during a fight.
- I keep hitting the Windows key on my keyboard, which pulls you out of game and has gotten me killed numerous times during boss fights. Can't this be set to be disabled? I did fix this by downloading a free app that I have to remember to activate every time I play.
- why can't you assign mouse buttons? 5 button mice are not exactly new inventions, and the mouse wheel is totally unused unless you are looking at the map. I would have liked to roll it to toggle between lightsaber modes.
I rolled my eyes when I saw under system requirements that a game controller was not required but strongly recommended. You all need to stop trying to phase out keyboards, mice, and joysticks. Star Wars Battlefront II apparently had joystick support during beta which was REMOVED, and the game was not fun in Starfighter modes. Fortunately some resourceful person figured out how to back the controls to make a USB Joystick emulate an Xbox controller. PC users make up a huge portion of your consumers, quit trying to dumb down our games by making us use controllers.
