To be practical, the game's 40 GB in size, so a pre-load even the day before should be plenty of time to download it for all but the slowest of connections (I'm expecting less than an hour).
Seems to me there is nothing to worry about here.
The game 'went gold' two weeks ago. 🙂
Why is this upsetting people? You can't play it any sooner right? Just chill. lol

I'm partially asking the same question BUT, although it's only 40gb and would take myself around 5mins to download; I have a friend who has the slowest connection and takes him hours to download a game, so I do feel the pain a little.
An example, it took him almost 3 days to download Warzone haha; I would cry at those speeds.- Kevlegs5 years agoSeasoned Ace@CarbonCarl makes you wonder how the game will play if it's that slow. lol
- CarbonCarl5 years agoHero (Retired)@Kevlegs Surprisingly he seems to be ok, I think he is pushing bare minimum for multiplayer gaming but seems to be stable for the most part.

Your friend is not the only one with a connection like that.
In my case, my connection is often either 10Kb/s or even just no connection at all. Yes, it takes a while to load Google. So I tend to play games that can work with only a 10Kb/s type of connection.
#LAG Bomb, LAG Bomb, that's my LAG Bomb.
(Guess what tune I just did a parody of, LOL)- CarbonCarl5 years agoHero (Retired)@GENERALZOOL Oof I couldn’t handle such slow speeds, I’m one of these that likes an instant response lol.
Loving the parody 😂

Why?
One of the incentives for pre-ordering is the ability to pre-install the game and, importantly, avoid the inevitable server crush that occurs on launch day!
How don't people know this? I literally cannot tell you of ANY launch of a title that has gone smoothly...servers get overloaded, players get stuck in loading screens, booted from games etc.
This is normal for online multiplayer games it seems ... lol ... EA will (and has) been the same.
So, now my version says my "pre-load" date is the 1st, and the launch day is the 1st.
Meaning - no preload at all and if you want to play on launch day, for get it!
Seriously, my mantra over the past decade is "Never try to play on launch day". Now , has to change to "don't try to install or play on launch day", because EA's servers just won't let you. I'm calling it now, massive server load, hardly anyone able to play OR install. Forget it.

Jeez, ya think this might be a reflection on future gameplay, certainly doesn't bode well that pre-release was delayed at least 4 times. You'll have to pardon us, after all this company is so well known for their excellent customer service. Please child......

FYI, at midnight Eastern time I was able to start downloading (PC). So I guess by midnight tomorrow I'll be able to play, on schedule.
I get that it doesn't matter if I download the game 5 days ahead of release or 5 minutes ahead of release. I just wish they had let me know what was up instead of stringing me along and sending multiple "it's ready!!!" emails which failed. Some kind of mea culpa would have been nice.
Still super pumped about Squadrons tho. 😃

I have done the pre-load.
(On PC version.)
Really happy I am not to be late to the party. 😉
