For me when i got the email and notification saying preload was available it kept saying “download failed” and then the date would change to a future date.
currently the Origin app on my PC says Sep 30 is my preload date.I subscribe to EA Play only for being able to play before. What a wrong ad. It's EA s*** like we used to! VERY VERY disapointed!
I can imagine why they are postponing the pre-load:
The keep finding and fixing bugs.. so instead of preloading something that needs replacing, they just wait.
What annoys me is that they sent the notification of pre-load for the 25th, keep postponing it and leaving us in the dark, rather than just sending a new mail apologizing for the delay.
That would be the decent thing to do.
So while we wait.. time to do some warm up by playing the old X-Wing and Tie Fighter (can be acquired from GoG).
Why?
One of the incentives for pre-ordering is the ability to pre-install the game and, importantly, avoid the inevitable server crush that occurs on launch day!
How don't people know this? I literally cannot tell you of ANY launch of a title that has gone smoothly...servers get overloaded, players get stuck in loading screens, booted from games etc.
This is normal for online multiplayer games it seems ... lol ... EA will (and has) been the same.
So, now my version says my "pre-load" date is the 1st, and the launch day is the 1st.
Meaning - no preload at all and if you want to play on launch day, for get it!
Seriously, my mantra over the past decade is "Never try to play on launch day". Now , has to change to "don't try to install or play on launch day", because EA's servers just won't let you. I'm calling it now, massive server load, hardly anyone able to play OR install. Forget it.
What would be ideal is if an EA community manager just posted a sticky message at the top of the board just saying the pre-load option has been cancelled and a brief overview of why.
Think it would go a long way to helping the community and players.
Yes, there's no preload at all now, my "preload" date is the same as launch date on my Play Launcher.
I'm wary though, I'd actually rather they postponed the launch now until they're sure they have a fully working product...seems they're cutting it too close for my liking and I don't like the image of devs being forced into a crunch for this title.
- @TheQuinch1199 I don't have anything better to do so I can wait. You should too.
We have to anyway but that's completely missed the point of what I said.
Pre-loading helps to avoid excessive server load at launch.
That's the reason for it.
- @TheQuinch1199 That's like saying we shouldn't all be using google at the same time because it puts a strain on their servers. I'm sure they'll be able to handle it if configured correctly.

"If you're playing on Steam or Epic, you will be able to access the game globally at midnight UTC. Every other platform gets access at midnight based on your respective region." Oh gee, is this your first launch? I've yet to remember a major launch that didn't have server issues lol
