Star Wars Squadrons via Steam Error 4975
I tried all of the suggestions found on various threads regarding this issue, but nothing seems to help.
I purchased Star Wars Squadrons via Steam. When I run the game, it first says "connecting", then it gives me a blank screen with a gray-ish background and a "Close" button at the top-right. After hitting the close button (since there's nothing else I can do there) I get the error: 4975
From what I could gather based on reading other posts, this is supposed to be the EA account login page enabling you to link your EA account from inside the game. But for me it's completely blank, as mentioned.
I've tried suggestions regarding changing the video settings of the game from Fullscreen to Windowed, or Windowed Borderless etc. As some users reported it solved the issue of the EA login dialogue not appearing correctly. But in my case it did nothing.
Regarding the linking of Steam and EA accounts, my Steam account is already linked to my EA account from a previous purchase.
Other games (like Battlefield V) that I also purchased from Steam work exactly as intended alongside my EA account.
What I noticed also is that Star Wars Squadrons doesn't appear at all in my EA app's game library (despite other EA titles purchased via Steam appearing correctly).
However, if I login to my EA account via browser, Star Wars Squadrons DOES in fact appear as part of my game library.
This led me to believe that this is a bug related to the EA app itself.
So I tried the suggestions meant to fix this, including:
1. Updating the app
2. Clearing its cache
3. Running EA app as Administrator
4. Deleting Licenses files in EA App's folder inside %appdata%
* Closed EA app and it's background processes via Task Manager through all of these steps, and cleared cache multiple times, with each stage
I also tried logging out of my account in the EA app, then re-logging with the Steam option, as that was suggested by someone in the forums as a way to link the accounts (even though in my case they were already linked). But I figured might as well try everything. Needless to say that didn't solve the problem either.
So at this point nothing which has worked for other people has worked for me.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks!
UPDATE:
I don't know how, or why, but after playing around with the invisible login interface for a while, it finally worked.
After reading @KramerThCourier 's solution in this thread, I played around with blindly entering my EA account's e-mail and password in the blank overlay.
First entering the e-mail, hitting <TAB>, then entering my password, and hitting <enter>.
This prompted the blank overlay to refresh. However it was still blank. The assumption is that now I was on the security code prompt dialogue.
I tried to fumble through the "new" invisible prompt, trying to guess the correct key combination to allow me to enter the security code from my app, and randomly trying to enter it.
With no luck! My random attempts just resulted in the dialogue closing and the same error appearing on screen.
At some point I gave up on trying, then came back to it a few minutes later, pressed reconnect again, and the game simply crashed.
However, after launching the game again, I instantly got the gray overlay, and the security code dialogue magically appeared! As in it was actually visible. This is the 1st time it happened after dozens of attempts. I'm not sure what I did differently.
There was no prompt for e-mail/password, it went straight to the security code dialogue. I'm assuming those were "saved" from the previous blind input attempts.
So I just chose to verify via my security app, hit next, entered the code, made sure that "Remember this device" was checked, and that's it! It works now. And I didn't have to disable 2FA.
Honestly, it shouldn't be this complicated. It really feels like dumb luck that this worked, as I can't say exactly what changed after multiple attempts that suddenly made it work. My only guess is the wait time between entering your e-mail/password blindly, and hitting reconnect again to get the security code dialogue? Idk.
By the way, I didn't need to disable Steam/EA overlays like mentioned in @KramerThCourier 's thread. My guess is that's not strictly necessary.
