Start Squadrons in VR

I know that if you are using Steam to play STAR WARS Squadrons, you have a few options if you want to launch the game into VR directly.  Is there a way to do this with the EA Desktop version of this game?

My problem is that I when I try to do VR, I have to switch to a desktop stream within vr, navigate to the options (if HDR is on, which it is by default, it's slow and flickers), select enable VR option, put down vr controllers and pick up gamepad, start playing.

I just want to launch the vr version and have my controller in hand and go.
