Exactly the same issue first time I played. First one gets a message about some intel graphics driver but since I got problems when I upgraded that one last time, I skipped that, just pressed OK. Did press enter and nothing happened, pressed all keys and some quick start program came on top, tabbed back and hammered 'enter' a few times and then it started (I thought that maybe there was just some wait cursor missing...). Played for 3 hours and game went fine, it is obviously using the NVIDIA driver by the way.
Today I tried it again. Now it will not start. Tried a few of the workarounds found when googling, none worked so far. Only thing that seems to have happened is that the screen resolution of the starting screen has changed (text is larger now than when I tried it the first time)?!?!?
What workarounds did you try? Could you provide links? It's too painful when Skyping with my friends listening to them having fun without me. :/

After doing a bit of searching, I found this video. The "plug in a controller and press (A)" solution worked for me. :D
