Stuff I miss from X-Wing games

I think this game is really cool in a lot of ways, but very clunky in many ways as well. It's like an unfinished X-Wing game is the best way i can describe it. I haven't played it a ton but these things seem to stand out this far:

I like:

Sensation of speed

Targeting

That there is power system management

Boosting is kinda cool

I don't like:

Power management is all, nothing, or balanced per system, can't individually increment to say have all in shields/lasers/none in engines, old system used to always draw from engines and dump back into engines if you added too much

Hitpoints for standard tie fighters seem a little high

I want to be able to select the components of my larger enemies targets (like sheild gen, targeting, ect))

I want to be able to crosslink/change my torpedo's/weapon's firing configurations (single, dual, quad, ect)

Cycle targets backwards as well as forwards

Just a button to toggle shields balance instead of a menu

If you look at this old hotkey mapping, there's alot of missing features i think we should have, especially speed presets

I haven't tried multiplayer yet but my thoughts from practicing/single player thus far

  • The power management is actually more robust, just not by default.

Go into the settings, controls (?) and select power management as advanced.

I just found this today, so I only had the chance to test and used the 'balance' hotkey to reset things.  There are settings for moving power between specific things, like move from weapons to shields. I'm trying to work out how I'm going to map this all in a sensible way on my HOTAS.

I thought you could target specific components of capital ships?  I thought I remember targeting the shield gen in one of the missions (I'm still only 3 in).

I agree with the cycling targets.  I have a scroll wheel that would be ideal if it worked in both directions.

My biggest wishlist item right now is analog input for "roll".

  • Great feedback, I would enjoy the designated targeting, at times im aiming right at the shield generators and then it tracks a tie fighter.

  • @Gafiltha Use the targetting wheel to select Capital Ship Systems. Then use the cycle button and it will target the specific items on the ship you need to kill.

And as stated earlier, power managment can be set for incremental in the gameplay settings. But i'll tell you, in the heat of a dogfight.. you're going to find it very hard to be precise when you're getting locked on and laser blasted from 6 directions at once.
  • @Psi0nicGh0st also:

"Hitpoints for standard tie fighters seem a little high"
When compared to Rep fighters with regenerating shields.. it's a balancing thing.

"I want to be able to crosslink/change my torpedo's/weapon's firing configurations (single, dual, quad, ect)"
You can change torpedoes in the loadout section. You can also change primary weapon types. But you can't crosslink or change firing configs beyond the selected loadout.

"Cycle targets backwards as well as forwar"ds
Only goes in one way for now because a single button can only perform the action in one way. Im sure if you use keyboard/mouse, you can use the scroll wheel to cycle both ways.

"Just a button to toggle shields balance instead of a menu"
You can map any of the 3 actions (forward/balance/rear) to a button.
