Looking for some acknowledgement of the situation with non-USA based players and matchmaking / server connection issues. I started a thread here:
https://answers.ea.com/t5/General-Discussion/How-does-server-connection-matchmaking-work/m-p/9555551#M3665
but to bring it to light here where youre doing updates ill explain.
I'm in Australia. Here, my connection would be considered very good. Its stable, reliable has been updated with new wiring and connections in the last 3 years (because I work from home). The NBN service is new as well so the lines outside are newer, new node within the last 5 years etc. I'm using top end ASUS networking gear and running on a wired connection, not wireless. I generally run sub 20ms pings and 85mbps D/L speed off a fibreoptic line. Point being - I dont believe its my connection at all and you'd be hard pressed to find many people with a better connection than me in my state.
I play all sorts of different games, including other flight sims and FPS shooters...and none of them have given me any CONSISTENT major issues.
This game does.
Examples:
A) Getting behind a Ywing in a TI, emptying 3 full laser charges into the Ywing and seeing no damage (have had this happen numerous times).
B) Chasing a Xwing for 6 minutes around a map, landing laser hits and multiple missles (visually seeing hull strikes) and yet Xwing seems to take no damage and does not notice
C) Flying in "open" space and the next thing I know I am blowing up hitting an Asteroid (obvious rubber band or teleport)
These are just a few of many. And again, it isnt just every once in a while... it's the majority of my matches.
Overall my experience has been that usually 1 out of Every 5 games I play (usually when im Titan or Vanguard ONE - which leads me to suspect im host?) is OKAY enough to play. The remaining set of matches I ace unkillable opponents, im dying before I see whats really hitting me or I'm experiencing obvious "ghosting" and latency issues.
I SUSPECT that you guys are using a Peer to peer, non region-specific matchmaking process. Which would be incredibly subpar. So I'm hoping im wrong but thats what it feels like.
What do I want?
1) A latency or ping monitor in the game so I KNOW what my latency is. Why you released this without that function is really mind blowing for a game like this.
2) A CAP on connection Ping (id even be happy with a 300ms ping) so I dont wind up in matches above that.
3) Transparency about how the matchmaking process works.
4) Regional Specific servers so Im not having to connect to Europe or the USA on an Oceanic connection and getting whalloped just because my latency is an issue.
I'm all set to demand a refund of this game - which is a huge shame because I have been dying for a remake of XvT for a decade. I think you have a GREAT game on your hands but the entire core point of the game is in it's multiplayer. If the multiplayer remains unplayable - theres no point.
