It is because of immersion and other purpose is that VR needs cockpit, because of motion sickness. Don't worry it will be fine. I am playing EAs Star Wars Battlefront 2 always in cockpit view. I am really glad there aren't any other options, best pilot wins.

I'm worried about static image burn in on my lg c9 65 oled, it would be amusing to feel like I'm watching all my favourite shows from the cockpit of a star fighter except for the price these tvs cost 😄, also I would not be able to chase players very well with 50% of screen showing and would just force a zoom on the part of the screen I can see possibly giving me an advantage
@quenaelinThe Cockpit in Battlefront 2 is actually significantly smaller and less obstructive than what you will be getting. So imagine something 10x worse.

- @The_Suit05 Cockpit looks pretty much same size as in Battlefront 2
- @quenaelin How in the world is that the same size? Not really hard to notice the massive differences. The only thing same is the Hexagonal windows.
Squadrons Cockpit has he Center Base + Left and Right Side Vertical Walls + The Camera is pulled back further + The Glass Bars are thicker.
It is pretty dang obivious. - @The_Suit05 In gameplay video it looks about the same cockpit size, seat position is more back, there is also speed effect when you are pressed to the seat when accelerating, cool effect which is missing from Battlefront 2. I wouldn't worry so much, lets wait when this game is released.

You're driving a non-existent issue because you erroneously took the Bomber cockpit to be the Fighter's.
Seems perfectly fine to me. It's called immersion, For all you know these might be the view via VR, given the way it looks around on screen I would almost say that is the case.
In the meantime, have you seen the view from the cockpit of a real world aircraft?
Here's the view from a commercial airliner, which is what you could expect from a a ship like the TIE Reaper or U-Wing. It's not exactly the best, and this doesn't even show all the cockpit controls and MFDs.Also, take a look at the design of a TIE Fighter, TIE Interceptor and TIE Bomber. You really don't have a view of much more than what is Directly infront of you due to these big solar panel on either side of the ship.
Let's go for an in-canon explanation. The Empire expects it's pilot's to be the best of the best, and make do with the cheapest built fighter in the galaxy. They don't even give their ships shields.
If you go ahead and take a look at the Rebel Ships the A-Wing, X-Wing, Y-Wing, U-Wing. You'll notice they have a GOOD field of view, especially the A-Wing. In-Canon, they take all the pilots they can get, and give them every advantage they can.
You wanna join the empire and fly TIEs, you have to be THE BEST, this was the case with XvT series, this will be the case for Squadrons.
