TIE Defender disapointing

I guess I was expecting an Imperial X-Wing.

What we got is a glass cannon.

And it's slow.

Anyone else have any luck with it? I sure didn't.

  • @ghostmonk000 So what you're saying is that TIEs should be made faster but get destroyed in 2 hits due to lack of shields, and TIE Advanced & Defender are better than Interceptors, Fighters in every way plus shields.....exactly in accordance to Star Wars lore.

Yup, that would make a really balanced gameplay right there.

In reality, when newer models of spacecraft are developed, it often outclasses older models in every way, to the point that there's zero incentive to use older models apart from resources (ie. there may not be sufficient newer models to go around), but clearly this is not a gameplay consideration. It's like comparing an F-22 with an F-15. Who would use an F-15 if they have a choice of an F-22? For gameplay reasons, you have to give some incentive to players to choose an older model.

I cant say that I am, although I do suggest all craft be faster respectfully. As I mentioned on other posts here in general discussion and had nothing to do with the current version as of now. I do not believe they should be destroyed in any number of shots. My point is to give it fast accelerations, as they can do what they want with the speed since its a touchy subject thanks to the boosting feature. Im not sure where this allegation is coming from, but the shields are as weak as the hull at the moment. So, it wouldnt be me who would make that happen. Also, understand they have a default hard power transfer in place that can assist in any speed or accelerations under boosting.

Any way, its just a little perking up,  for the tie defender might be something good, I guess. Although if you are suggesting the shields or hull get buffed, there might be a valid point there. Although it is heavily powered as it is with yet it has no chance of escape, even from a support class. My over concern was not about the lore, as in my opinion I would like it to set precedence like the originals did for the franchise as a whole. I would say though, that I would like the over all game to proceed the cinema and canons if necessary to be an example and compelling game in light of being a pilot to show what star wars is really about to continue the game franchise as did many games before. this can be done without taking away the basic aspects of premise of star wars the story lore that makes star wars, in danger and consequence. Also, please go read my suggestions here in General Discussions and may the force be with you! Always...

  • I wish they would give it some more options on the hull so you dont need to rely on sheilds so much...

Yeah or make it faster or something.  I know it only as thr "free kill" fighter  and it's cannonocally the best tie in the series.

  • Actually the TIE Def is quite powerful if you manage the Power Systems very effectively. But I personally liked the TIE Ceptor and TIE Bomber more so I am still training for TIE Def but it is okay as far as I am concerned for the Balance of this Game.

Got a good 11 Kill Streak and No Deaths with a TIE Bomber before in Dogfight PVP:

  • defender and b-wing are of a barrage class and meant for garrison role as it appears. so surpassing distance is not the feature ability designed for this class by default. You can say its a support class, but its not constituted under the enlightenment of attributes as it is best feature are for repealing incoming.  Im sure it has some misplacement as far as weapons, since any ship can pretty much modify certain attributes for more equivocal off set functions in battle. Though they should be slower ships, they should have the high ranked maneuvering over the strike class.

I should say I believe you as many are probably more set back by the speed in general and maneuverability as some can be just underwhelmed and capsized with disbelief to these dynamics. This pace of the fighters makes one wonder what fight were they getting into  with these craft. i feel they were going for this trended cinematic pan floating look and as shows like clone wars and the movies to get that enigine sound follow shot. They did not create the best examples for a simulation,  due to them going for story and likeness to earlier films, but in fact they were trying to create speed and sensation in maneuvering.

Unfortunately this trend did not form as good  of a effect as they wanted. Lucas talks about the cars and planes his fascination appealed to of roars and tight forming maneuvering in that cinematic vane.  these tactics were actually done in slower speeds, as to not take the highers risks to incidents. Look at pod racers and the way they tried to push the speed barriers, as a pilot you need to manage your speed and this is what makes the ships look like they are going slow, because you dont want to crash since its the last thing you want to do. To achieve such operations you need to steady your speed around others. Especially in a dogfight battles where aiming and turning is more important than barreling through a swarm of fighters, which can end your whole mission before you have a chance.

Saying this, it is intended to have faster speeds, even the bombers. So if need be they can reach a whipping speed, just not as fast as others and they have a much slower acceleration, and ceasing to a stop also took a bit of time. So, this is why keeping a speed down helps and you can imagine all the other reasons for aim and turns.  This is why I believe they should all be ramped up about a quarter or so, its not just this class.
