More ships, absolutely.
But the TIE Defender is, and should be, too OP for competitive multiplayer. The B-Wing is difficult, too, because depending on which stats you use, can completely invalidate the Y-Wing.
That said, if the B-Wing were treated as a totally different niche than the Y-Wing, maybe having more emphasis on primary armament than on auxiliary options, it might work. If that were the case, maybe pair it up against the TIE Brute, or Assault Gunboat as an Imperial equivalent.
The TIE Defender would be fun to fly in a single-player or co-op campaign, though.
For other ships with very similar stats to the 4 ships each faction has, maybe they could be brought in as effectively reskins of the basic ships.
For example, the Mandalorian Fang Fighter could be an alternative looking, but stat-identical ship to the TIE Interceptor. Ditto Mando Gauntlet and TIE Reaper.
