I also got stuck here for like an hour once. It is tricky. You hold down the run-left control while jumping. If you're using kybd, you hold down A when you jump, and then hit E (to grab the vines) mid-air. Good luck, sir.
Thank you -- I finally got it last night. I can't remember if I pushed the run button or not... How I wish video games would throw you a bone after a (perhaps selectable) number of failures in a given scene. No wonder many people don't finish games!
