There is a powerful ability people aren't using with the imperial fighter craft.
The Emergency Power Converter for imperial ships without shields.
Since starfighters without shields do not have to manage shield direction (focus shields), these ships are provided with an additional ability: Emergency Power Converter. You can instantly shunt all power from one system to the other, giving you the advantage of overcharged engines or overcharged primary weapons at a moment’s notice, at the expense of the other system.
This will not change your power distribution settings, so if that system is not currently overcharged, the additional power will start to drain. Bear in mind that – depending on the power levels before using this ability – converting power to engines may leave you without primary weapons for several seconds, and converting to primary weapons will severely impact your speed for a short time. That said, this ability can provide a quick tactical advantage to make a quick getaway or to deal heavy damage in a pinch.
This is found under the tips a tricks section of the official Squadrons site.
So as an example, you can set full power to your engines, charge up your boost and when you're ready to attack, you shift all your stored boost power instantly to your weapons which will give you fully charged shots. Like wise, if you have charged weapons, you can divert power suddenly to your booster storage and boost away.
The Rebels can't do this, they have to charge it system linearly and wait for the subsystem to charge up.

You, like most people, believe this is an ability that Imps get, and Pubs get nothing in return. Using the same system on Pubs shunts all of your weapons and boost energy directly into your shields. So in an emergency, it's possible to build some shield strength in a hurry by sacrificing your other energy reserves. To be honest, they ability to instantly grant yourself a shield boost is a lot better than being able to make your engines or weapons slightly more powerful.
