Not sure how it's specific to Steam, if that's true.
But I found an excellent demonstration of the issue (credit to /u/austinzone813):

@FeIewin How it may be specific to steam: i have read it may be an issue with lack of oculus sdk for the steam version of this title, in some cases causing some of the vr\high refresh rate monitor\stuttering images outside of the cockpit issues listed in this thread, and in other threads here. this also may explain why my experience went from "painfest vomitcomet" when using an oculus rift cv1 to "how did this 'game' get green-lit for release from one of the most greedy, manipulative, monolithic wealth baron populated companies rich enough to have locked away sole access to develop star wars games for themselves? they cant pay for proper game... development? and if this is all the content we will ever get for this title, and the $40 price is specifically meant to represent a fully standalone experience, and it was developed from the ground up for VR, it ought to do better in VR on release day than..... whatever the F this is supposed to be. and if not on release day, certainly the 1.1 patch over a week later should fix it up. no?.... oh.... hmmm.... really?" when i got a refund for the steam version and re-purchased through EGS, installed, played, and had a somewhat passable play session, albeit still a broken one, instead of what felt like instant generation of powerful headaches and nausea. your mileage may vary.
