Haven't tried playing the game with mouse and keyboard, but with a controller - assigning pitch/roll to the same stick literally reduces the speed of the maneuver by about 50% for some unknown reason. When they're on different sticks the speed of the pitch and roll maneuver is normal, but the game punishes you for wanting pitch and roll on the same stick.
This bug forces you to use the default first person shooter (right analogue stick looks around) type of setup where pitch/yaw are together on one stick and throttle/roll are together on the other, otherwise the controls become unresponsive. Evidence: https://youtu.be/knknwBKd7Lk
