Why can't I bind the Numpad Enter key in SWBF?

Before the May 2016 patch, I had my Numpad Enter key bound to Jump. I'm left handed and thus use the 10-key Numpad in place of the traditional WASD keys. But here we are and the Bespin DLC has dropped and I still cannot re-bind the key to jump. When attempting to do so, it says "COLLISION ALERT" and indicates the key is already bound to OPEN CHAT. This cannot be undone. For me the game is now unplayable.

  • @Thuryos Yep, I used the key that's in the bottom right of the keyboard. I tried it in MP games twice now, the 2nd time I set the controls to default then just bound "jump".

Toggling numlock had no effect. Pressing the regular/central Enter key opened the chatbox as normal.

I'm using a fairly generic membrane keyboard, I wonder if that's a factor. If you have configurable/programmable keyboard perhaps you can try resetting to defaults?

@Thuryos Hi I started it up now and was able to rebind the key. I tested it online and offline, it seems to be working fine for me. Can you try toggling jump to a different value then back to the numpad enter, and choose "ok" when you're informed of the conflict.

    Thanks.

  • Hi David,

Thank you for your swift response.

Clarification: did you try the ENTER key or the NUMPAD ENTER key? Because I can accomplish exactly what you suggest with the ENTER key (the key above the right shift key) but any attempt to change the NUMPAD ENTER key (including the method you describe here) causes the Chat Box to open when pressing. This results in my character stopping, unable to move or do anything until I close that box. For me, since I've used that particular key since Battlefield 1942 and have complete muscle memory to that key, the game is rendered unplayable.

    Please try these steps:

Rebind your Jump key to the NUMPAD ENTER key and then enter a multiplayer game. (Note that Single player is not affected by this glitch because there is no chat box in that mode).

Then run a bit, press the NUMPAD ENTER key and see if the chat box opens.

I have attempted rebinding the Open Chat box, then binding the Jump to any other key, then binding it back to NUMPAD ENTER, etc. So if you have a specific set of steps that work, please list them precisely.

    Thank you,

    Mark

  • @EA_David

Thank you sir. I have a normal (non-programmable) keyboard, and I had tried everything. But I had never tried resetting to defaults!!! Once I did that, and re-bound everything, then it worked just as you said.

Be sure to spread the word about that specific issue (the need to reset to defaults) of anyone else should encounter this glitch.

Thank you very much for your assistance.

    Peace!

    Mark

Wonderful. I know I'm a little late, but thanks for coming back to confirm that this was fixed.
