why the ion missile nerf?

So the ion weapon was a staple for me. I usually play tiefighters/x wings. But now that it has been slowed down to the speed of other missiles I don't really  see any advantage to using them over a concussion missile. I think this patch has rendered ion missiles useless at this point. I know it was harder to dodge them but it was definitely still doable. I've had plenty of games where I was unable to hit anyone with it because people utilized speed and maneuvering to great effect. This weapon was very good for both support and fighter class ships but now it seems like fighter class ships have lost some edge when it comes to killing other ships. Thankfully fighters can still do damage to capital ships pretty well.

Does anyone have any tips for a good anti starship loadout for tiefighter/xwing?

  • @BoneSmasher101 Missiles are not exactly very dependable to get Frags in higher levels of play, could be because a lot of New Players are spamming Ion Missiles?

    I myself have various builds for my TIE Fighter and I do use Ion Missiles before the nerf, after the nerf I also felt that it was easier to Counter Ion Missiles. God knows what the devs are thinking about balance.
  • against good teams. I.E high level players they could still work just so long as you timed your shot. Usually involved being very close, but it was very hard to do. So yeah you are right, They are no where near as useful in higher levels of play. I don't know what the devs are thinking either, I wonder where they are getting their feedback from.

  • Probably because it’ll be too deadly to the new Defender, which is all shields.

  • My favorite X-Wing Loadout (can be similarly created with the TIE/LN but I think the XWing works better with this):

    Main Wpn: Standard Lasers

    Aux1: Concussion Missiles

    Aux2: Ion Missiles (or Astromech/Repair or Assault Shield if you like to go head to head)

    Seeker W/H Countermeasures

    Hull: Agile / Slipstream Light

    Shield: Loronar Ray Shield (make sure you dodge those Aux weapons or change this to something else)

    Engine: Jet Engine (quick building boost for multiple, short boost drift turns to outmaneuver your opponent)

    I find that the extra speed and maneuverability from the Light Hull is well worth the reduction in hull strength for the XWing, not so sure for the TIE

  • Rocket Barrage is nerfed too...

    Ouch, I need to change my X-wing's loadout. 🤐

  • @N16H7-W1N6 thanks for the reply. I guess I hadn't heard of that patch, and hopefully they de nerf everything they have nerfed aside from the tie bomber hull and the initial A-wing shield nerf. May the force grant us the great de nerf
