For the people who aren't just venting their frustrations and asking for refunds, I've been at it troubleshooting for hours and have finally gotten my game working. I had the not launching at all issue, crashing on menu, crashing during cutscenes, etc. This game was not ready for PCs across the board, some users are 100% ok and some are struggling like us. Steps that follow are a pain in the butt, but if you'd rather just return the game, cool. Just here to try and help other people out:
- Re-install Origin, it won't delete your other games, just the client. Clear the cache before re-installing (%ProgramData%\Origin) in case there's any folder/files left; they say not to delete localContent folder, up to you, I did and I'm good.
- Re-install The Fallen Order, I would save it to your primary drive if you have enough space. Let it go all the way through, as well as the deluxe edition content if you got the game via Origin Access.
- In your C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Jedi Fallen Order\__Installer you'll see two folders: directx and vc. You can find an installer named DXSETUP in the directx\redist folder, as for VC, just run the x64(assuming you're on 64-bit) and if you're already up to date, you're good. Neither install should fail or give you any errors other than you already have what you need/newer version detected, etc. This is totally a just-in-case step but IMO one that can make or break your game working.
That's how I was able to "cleanly" re-install the game. I did a couple other things that may not even be needed; but my game is working right now, so I'm keeping it this way til a patch comes out:
- In Nvidia Control Panel, I changed my resolution/refresh rate to 1080p(under TV) @ 60Hz. Even capping it at 60 while running natively at 240Hz felt choppy and gave me artifacting/tearing.
- Run the executable in administrative mode. Right click the shortcut -> open folder location -> right click the star wars app(click properties) -> compatibility - change for all users -> run as admin.
- Those on high-end GPUs, even though other forums have pointed out this game is CPU bottlenecked, I've been using PrecisionX to downclock my GPU only by setting the GPU temp cap to 85% rather than 100. Suprisingly it feels better on my EVGA 1080ti SC than at base clock speeds.
These of course are all just workarounds for those that can't wait for a patch to be released. It feels to me as if this game was built specifically for consoles and we received a very raw port.
Proof(Ultra settings/60FPS) - no spoilers(though I'm going to tag it anyway), this is one of many side-rooms that is very early on.
