same - the game only natively recognizes the controller when you set the controller to a DS4 in steam options, but then the prompts still reference xbox.

When you enable PS4 controllers in the Steam settings, it's emulated as an Xbox controller. Many Steam games won't show PS icons unless you turn it off in Steam.
But I played on Origin and didn't use any third party software (not even Steam), and my wired DualShock worked flawlessly, albeit with Xbox icons. It would seem like such small effort to just add an option for DS4 icons, like many games do nowadays.
Even I, an amateur, cooked up a game in Unity that worked with DualShock controllers (and with icons!) and I can barely code. It shouldn't be that difficult for a major game development studio.

I had a different experience using the Steam version of the game: the button assignments were all wrong until I set the controller as a DS4 in the steam settings. E.g. square was confirm, x was back - gross. Obviously they were still being displayed as xbox-prompts but at least I could navigate the menus.
I don't think I've ever played a released game with bugs like this before... so disappointing.
And no it really shouldn't be difficult for them - they already have all the icons too from the PS4 version.
