If you're encountering this on PC, can you try creating a throwaway Origin account and see if this one can play.

I can play online just fine but as soon as we go to his account, it gives us the error message that he cannot access online features. This does not appear to be an issue with the settings. I checked his Xbox account settings and he can play any other game online just fine. Very frustrating.
Any suggestions on how to fix?

i have this problem as well
ive opened and port forwarded all of the ports mentioned for pc and it still didnt work...Getting the same problem here on XBOX one. I can access all the online features, but my 3 kids cannot get online at all....
