Amazon Pre-Order & Deluxe Edition bonus codes not received
So I placed my pre-order for the game on 6 April 2023 for PlayStation 5 on Amazon with the promise of exclusive bonus content. release date came. Game was delivered on the day of release. No pre-order code. "Never mind", I think, "it might take a day or two."
A day or two passes. I think little of it. After all, I pre-ordered because I wanted to play the game, not dress up as Obi-Wan Kenobi.
But also, who doesn't want to be Obi-Wan Kenobi?
It gets to Monday and now I am kind of miffed. So I start looking in to who I need to contact to get it sent out.
Should be no bother. Just need an auto email generated, right?
Well, Amazon links to here; not to an actual customer service department.
This is not useful. This is more of a place for bugs and other technical issues, I think. Besides, Amazon is the one who should be sending the email with the pre-order code, right?
So I go through Amazon's return chat service and manage to get a hold of someone. The first person tells me that they can't do it and so they pass me to someone else, who tells me the same thing, to then pass me to someone else who says he has sent the code and it should arrive in my email within 48 hours. Oh. Okay then. Easy. Even if it did take 3 different team members 45 minutes and being told what was the problem 3 times before they "figured it out".
Well, 48 hours comes and goes and there is still nothing. So I contact Amazon again.
Obviously now I am a little more irate. I was told this was solved and an email would arrive within 48 hours. What's the problem here? In between contact on the first day and the second, I have found messages on here stating that it is Amazon's responsibility to send the code out. The customer service team at Amazon dispute this and tell me over and over that this is not a code they can manually send and that I need to contact the manufacturer. Well, I tell them that the manufacturer says that it is up to Amazon and I, now fully embodying the Karen that I have some how evolved into over the course of this conversation, ask to speak to a supervisor.
Now, the supervisor takes a moment to read over the conversation before repeating the same thing their customer service rep has said, "Please contact the manufacturer and they will be able to help you resolve the issue."
Well, I disagree again, and so they try to palm me off with a 13 digit code... for a system that works on a 12 digit code.
So I reiterate that this is Amazon's responsibility and that I need a 12 digit code.
They, however, hold their ground saying that this is on EA.
We are at an impasse and getting no where, so I ask to escalate this further, but...
This is the escalation team I am speaking with!
Oh, no!!!
And so with that I am now in a position where I need to make a complaint to Amazon because no one is taking responsibility for this fiasco or for putting it right.
So why am I here?
I guess to formally ask EA to sort it out and send me the pre-order code I was promised... but I have little faith they will.
No one seems to willing to take responsibility at all for this.
Between the pre-order fiasco and the technical issues Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has endured since launch I shall not be pre-ordering an EA game again.
I also shall not be pre-ordering any game through Amazon again either.
This has been an absolute palaver that has fortunately only cost me a few hours of my time to learn a valuable lesson.
