Game crashing when cutscene for landing on Koboh plays

Product: STAR WARS Jedi: Survivor Deluxe Edition
Platform:Steam-PC
Summarize your bug: Every time I try to approach Koboh for the first time, the game crashes immediately after the cutscene showcasing the giant blue light.

How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Start a game and progress the story until you are on the mantis travelling to Koboh for the first time. Make sure to collect everything from the starting planet, spending at least an hour there, save at every checkpoint you come across, and edit your character's and BD-1's appearances as well as your lightsabers. Save on the Mantis, then progress the story for approaching Koboh for the first time. After Cal says "Let's Land" after seeing the strange light and the Mantis approaches the planet, the game will crash.
What happens when the bug occurs? the game shows a still-shot of the mantis in the air for a split second, the audio briefly hangs, then the game crashes and the error report dialogue box appears. See Attached Screenshot of the error report dialogue box with the error of "Unhandled Exception: EXECPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION reading address 0x0000000000000070
What do you expect to see? The game not to crash and the story to progress as it should.

Of note, here's a checklist of everything I can remember having already tried. As of yet, nothing seems to have worked.

1. Uninstall/Reinstall the game.

2. Restart PC.

3. Full Power Off PC (including unplugging).

4. Ensure no mods are present or active.

5. Turned all graphics to minimum/lowest possible settings.

6. Made sure it was the only program running.

7. Ran game in Windowed, Windowed Fullscreen, and Fullscreen.

8. Made new save file and progressed until the same point.

9. Disabled DLC.

10. Gave game Realtime, High, and Above Average priority respectively within Task Manager.

11. Ensured all drivers, graphics, and software are up to date.

12. Searched over Google, Steam Forums, and EA Forums for relevant articles.

13. Starting the game from EA app instead of from Steam.

14. Starting the game from the game's Executable file instead of from an app.
15. Installing mods intended to assist in fixing this sort of issue.

16. Verifying integrity of Game Files through Steam and EA app.

17. Fresh install of Windows 10.

At this point in time, there is nothing I can find or think of to do in order to fix this issue on my end. My game is essentially hardlocked by this unavoidable crash, so please let me know if there's anything more you need from me to be able to diagnose and resolve this issue.

*Update: I have still not yet figured out a way to get around this issue. Please, please, help me and others who have the same issue figure out what to do. It's been nearly a full year now since I've had this issue and I've checked with each new major update, hoping that "maybe this time the game I paid for will work as it's supposed to?".

Admin rights on or off doesn't seem to change anything.

Vsync doesn't seem to change anything.

I've tried changing my monitor's resolution (default is 1440p and I've tried 1080 and 720) to no avail.

I have yet to try changing my monitor's refresh rate outside of the game's menues because I didn't think it mattered and I thought that the game's settings would work. But if the game is forcing me to manually reduce my computer's refresh rate by half or a quarter just to play it without crashing, then that's simply terrible design. Especially from EA for a triple-A game.

Gonna be honest, I'm probably not going to test that until there were other things I can test as it would require redownloading the 130Gb game which I honestly don't want wait 2 hours for. Especially given the unlikelihood of it working.

  • Sorry to hear that!

The only things I did not mention or made explicit are:

    - I run the game with vsync activated  ( I can't stand screen tearing )

    - I set my monitors refresh rate to 100hz and limited the FPS to 50 in the AMD driver

    - I am making sure, the game does not run with Administration rights

If this doesn't change anythign for you, I might just have been lucky with my aproach

Unfortunately, that did absolutely nothing to help me. It still crashes in exactly the same place every single time without fail. When I try to load the cutscene for landing on Koboh for the first time, game audio still stutters, and the game crashes.

Unfortunately, that did absolutely nothing to help me. It still crashes in exactly the same place every single time without fail. And looking back at my log of attempted fixes, I've already tried that fix before.

I'm still getting the issue where, when loading the cutscene for landing on Koboh for the first time, game audio stutters, I get a single still-image frame of the ship doing what I presume is it's landing sequence, and then game crashes. Every time. Without fail.

  • I did it, it's working now. After steam refused my refund request 2 times I was forced to make it work.

Took me several more hours, but here is how to fix the game: (at least for AMD grapihc cards)

    1. Search for the JediSurvivor.exe ( e.g. under ..\Steam\steamapps\common\Jedi Survivor\SwGame\Binaries\Win64)
    2. Open its Properties and activate Windows 7 Compability. Uncheck everything else and press OK!
(while you are at it, you can delete the 2 "Default_Startup...mp4" files e.g. under  ..\Steam\steamapps\common\Jedi Survivor\SwGame\Content\Movies so the game starts faster)
    3. Update your graphic card driver. DO NOT SKIP THIS! I am using a 6800 XT and the driver version 23.12.1 is working fine
    4. Go to nexus mods and download the "May the performance be with you" mod installer here: https://www.nexusmods.com/starwarsjedisurvivor/mods/7?tab=files
    5. Unpack the mod, run the installer, browse to the game location (e.g. under ..\Steam\steamapps\common\Jedi Survivor)

    6. Then choose the "normal" or "normal 80" preset (2nd is for higher quality)
    7. Check "Limit pool to VRAM" , "AO Culling and RT Crashes Fixes" and "Use Experimental Stutter Fixes" then press install
    8. Now start the game and open task manager. In the details tab right click the JediSurvivor.exe and give it "High" priority

The last step you need to repeate every time you start the game

    I hope this helps.

  • That is exactly the same issue I have. 4 month later. Spend 2 hours trying to fix it, because I would really liek to play the game, and it was running smooth up to this point. But nothing is working. Now I requested a refund, since it the only option I have left ...

  • Gotta love the fact that I made this post back in October, have been having this issue since July 2023, and it's still not fixed nor have I recieved any kind of communication from EA. Would be great if any moderators or admins came and responded to this issue...

  • @RJL1te I'm experiencing the same issue. Bought this game on sale and am saddened I cannot even progress to the first main area.
