Not sure if this will solve all desired configurations (and will be annoying if you frequent other games maybe) but for me I just simply wanted r1 to be attack - to do this with the least friction I have just gone into my PS5 accessibility settings and just remapped r1 to square and square to r1.
This solves the issue for me as everything remains bound and still works (note: in game prompts don’t reflect these changes but since mine is only 1 input swap I’ll just remember whenever it says to press square I need to press r1)

@Diagz@Klayman55_4p6tuthanks for the suggestions. I did something similar to Klay's and, too, am still having to swap in/out certain controls, like BD-1 Activate and Ascension Cable -- and I'm not convinced these are collisions.
Really surprised they released with controller remapping in this poor state.
