@Gonfuzza so let's sum this a bit here since you think im being too 'ivory tower' about this:
We both agree EA is at fault, we both appreciate this. We both seem to agree they have probably broken some law. And we both agree of the futility of a legal action beyond following up with yiur local process to reclaim your lost funds. That in mind please elaborate:
What action can you take to hold them accountable?
What does shouting at forum mods and devs do to achieve this?
What outcome do you expect for the behavior to have?
What actual legal options do you have to recoup "damages" from their "deception"?
What purpose is there in pointing out the obvious moral and (dubiously) legal failing?
Whats more: what purpose does reasserting the moral failings of EA serve beyond emphasizing the point that good faith in marketing should not have been assumed?
Do consumers not have a responsibility to consume wisely?
Let's not conflate "quality control" with "encouraging deceptive business practices by rewarding them with money in exchange for faulty products." One is an issue EA can address, the other is a behavior of rewarding falsehoods in a way that enables them to continue their own negative. Behaviors. And yes if we as a community were more judicious about supporting companies we agree with rather than chasing narrative closure it could have a meaningful impact.
Let's also acknowledge the elephant in the room: Advertising goal is to manipulate you into buying something. You know this, you've stated this, why exactly would one assume good-faith in any advertising knowing the meta behind it? If you trust something you know is probably unethical, is it not your fault when you get burned?
Please do tell, because I don't see how your point is any less moot. Also I don't see what advantage SHOUTING AT THE MODS AND DEVS would give any of your points. (Caps for effect). Your turn spock.
Oh also in terms of concluding the story: let's plays are a great way to circumvent playing through bad games and enjoying the narrative. Other options do exist, and there are yet still more beyond that.
