Re: Unreal Engine Error | LowLevelFatalError

When attempting to launch Jedi Survivor, it instantly crashes and provides this error.

LowLevelFatalError [File:Unknown] [Line: 686] RootDevice->CheckFeatureSupport(D3D12_FEATURE_SHADER_MODEL, &ShaderModel, sizeof(ShaderModel)) failed at D:/depot/r8branches/r8release/Engine/Source/Runtime/D3D12RHI/Private/D3D12Adapter.cpp:724 with error E_INVALIDARG

My Windows and Drivers are up to date, game files have been verified through Steam several times.

    Hi all,

    Could you please try to repair the game files and see if the issue persists?

  • That was the first thing I tried, I've done it multiple times, same error every time.

    Edit: I have now uninstalled, reinstalled, and verified, crashes the exact same as it did before.

    I put in a ticket just an hour or two after the game came out and thats been almost 48 hours ago and noone had still tried to help. Who else is just starting to feel ignored. The only thing I have got is "we are working on the issue we will email you" and that was almost 24 hours ago now. So i have no idea and i have tried everything other posts have said. Been working on this sense the hour it came out I've uninstalled and reinstalled steam, ea, the game, my drivers, c++, Drirectx, and at this point not sure what else. It is not my firewall or virus protection. or 3rd party apps because i shut them all down and made sure they were updated too. made sure windows was updated. and i still keep getting the same thing. I know it has something to do with directx 12 but i cant find out what.

    LowLevelFatalError [File:Unknown] [Line: 686] RootDevice->CheckFeatureSupport(D3D12_FEATURE_SHADER_MODEL, &ShaderModel, sizeof(ShaderModel)) failed at D:/depot/r8branches/r8release/Engine/Source/Runtime/D3D12RHI/Private/D3D12Adapter.cpp:724 with error E_INVALIDARG

  • LowLevelFatalError [File:Unknown] [Line: 686] i get this every time i try to ride the giant camel thing in the desert, tried repairing and it says all game files have been validated and doesn't find anything wrong.

  • Same thing is now happening to me after 9 hours of running just fine. Now the game won't launch at all. I've repaired and I've reinstalled. Still crashing.

  • @EA_Leeuw the latest patch hasn't changed anything, just sat through 2+ hours of downloading and patching and the game still crashes instantly and provides the same error.

    I can confirm that the patch has not changed anything for me:

    I can play without any issue (except hard FPS drops) until I reach Jeddah. After the story takes me to the main hub and the Mantis lands there it basically breaks the game. As soon as I am near the ship it crashes with 100% repeatability with the following error:

    LowLevelFatalError [File:Unknown] [Line: 686] pResource->Map(Subresource, pReadRange, reinterpret_cast<void**>(&pData)) failed at D:\depot\r8branches\r8release\Engine\Source\Runtime\D3D12RHI\Private\D3D12RHIPrivate.h:1253 with error DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED with Reason: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG

    As this only sais: "I got no GPU to render" I tried to fix the issue in so many ways that I am now out of ideas - except maybe reinstalling windows ?

    Here are my attempts at resolving this:

    - verifying game files
    - changing graphics to minimum and restarting game

    - lowering my GPU clock by -100Mhz and VRAM clock by -100Mhz
    - disableing XMP on my RAM
    - Using DDU to completely uninstall any graphics driver and reinstall without Geforce Experience (which actually improved performance a little)
    - using SFC and DISM to check for errors in Windows
    - clearing %TEMP%

    - using an older NVIDIA driver (531.61 instead of 531.68)
    - performing a RAM test

    The game ALWAYS crashes at the very same spot where I try to leave with *SPOILER* from the main hub at Jeddah ...

    Completely stuck inside that building now. Fast travel is not available for story reasons.

    Windows 11 Ver.1635 - all current Windows Updates applied
    Hardware:
    - I7-12700k (non OC)
    - 32 GB DDR4-3200 XMP or 2133 non XMP - no errors on Windows Memory Diagnostics
    - Geforce RTX4090

    All other games (DX12 or otherwise) I own run fine without crashing.

  • I just had to completely reinstall windows. Then re download everything but now it’s working.

  • Hi,
    deaktivate your steam-overlay. at least that helped me. for now.....
    Previously I was having a crash/freeze every few minutes. It's been running for over an hour now.

    Much luck!

  • @DeathNight00 same, the second update seemed to fix the crashing when riding the camel thing but now it crashes during the either of the 2 to 3 cut scenes that follow it, i have also verified the game files and gone through a few other fixes and nothing has worked. Verifying the game files let me play through till the cut scene where Cal and Merrin are at the fire but haven't been able to finish it
