Akk Dog companion unable to craft?
I assumed all new companions would be able to craft, this seems not to be the case my AKK dog does not appear in the crew skills window. Is this a bug or as intended?

This is correct. The Akk Dog companion is unable to do crafting. The reason... well... cuz he's a dog.
They didn't mention it in the blog post, only in the livestream on all the new features: http://www.twitch.tv/swtor/v/18528261?t=1h10m25
collinc2343 is right, this is intended and not a bug. They are leaving the old companions (Treek and HK-51) alone, those can still craft. But all new Cartel Market companions, like the Akk Dog, cannot be used for crafting.
