I am not a subscriber, so this is the place where I can report these.
I am here to report that this bug is still in game and I have seen it happen with other classes, not only smugglers and it is with pratically every weapon item reward. Armor itens seem to be working well.

hi there! i am having this issue too with both of my characters. i havent been able to equip any light sabers since i got my first one!! all of them say they require rise of the hutt cartell expansion. is there any way we can fix this? verry frustrating
There is no current work around. This thread was from a time when a lot of players were getting this so they had to push a patch to fix a lot of items. Is this issue happening to every light saber you get including the one from when you first leave the starter planet? The one that can be modified?
yes, the only one i've been able to use so far is the first one you get. none of the other ones will equip, it says requires expansion hut cartell
Try emailing support@swtor.com with this information to see if they can assist. This would be the avenue to take if your not a subscriber to submit an in-game ticket.

EA QV Team@horsessupremacy If you send an email to support@swtor.com describing the issue and including the name of the item, the in-game guys might be able to replace the item.
