Can't change my SWTOR graphics options

It would be nice if folks started posting "Logs" .... Dxdiag, Client_Settings, any crash dumps or anything else that they can get their hands on; otherwise this will continue to be a blind turkey shoot..

Hate for this to turn out to be something small and minor that has been completely missed ie "yeah I have 4 980 ti's in SLI with an i7 blah blah blah .. 300watt power supply" O.o kind of thing.

Possible realms, would be a corrupt DX file.. so using something like the registry hack may be required to reinstall dx9.0c.

What occurs if you edit the client_settings file directly ?

does the game gfx change as well ? or does the game have issues with the new settings ?

If it accepts the higher settings without issue then likely windows permissions

if it has issues running the new settings then likely video driver

Post your client_settings and what you want to do in-game and can provide the changes manually

Hello again

I am now confident that this issue is related to my video/graphic card driver, and its response to the last swtor update. I have been playing swtor on this computer, with win10, since July (with graphics set to 'very high'). No problems.

When I try to change graphics options, my screen goes black and the computer freeze, while the timer runs out.

Also, when I try to play swtor in win10, my computer soon heats up a lot. Game performance is very bad on any graphics settings.

I have now reverted my computer back to win8.1. The game is working perfectly. No problems.

@zcthu3: If you can't find a solution, my best advice would be to revert back to win8.1, if you still want to play the game. At least, that's what I will do for the next weeks, while waiting for a fix. Eventually, I guess I will try to update to win10. If swtor is still not working I guess I have to quit the game.

Very sad, since I love the game. I see however, win10 superior to 8.1, in my work and studies.

I will try again next month.

@Benny_1977_23; Thanks, that matches my conclusion. As it is, I find Win10 better at pretty much everything I need that Win 8.1 (which I still have to run on my work PC), so suspect I will simply hold off and see if they fix it.

Hi, I still have exactly the same problem, same sympthoms, except that my computer is Dell not HP.

I did was able to modify the settings by modifying the settings file in the appdata folder, it was not in read only.

I did update all the drivers from AMD for my vídeo card, and also tried the drivers from DELL, but is still the same results.

Anyone can point me what driver exactly did you use and for what vídeo card?

Mine is an ATI Radeon R7 520 (2Gb).

The last thing I did was re-install DirectX 9 *again) and then install the latest drivers from AMD but not Raptor.

Didnt work... tried everything, install DirectX9, latest drivers I got from Dell page, didnt install raptor, configure the catalyst to use high performance in swtor... still the only way to change vídeo settings was editting the file in the app data. But not being able to changing the vídeo options is the less importante symptom, the problem is the performance of the game.

On Oct 22 i was playing with regular vídeo options, the one slightly better than low... with a very decente FPS, today, with everything at minimum, the FPS is really low, and from time to time (every few seconds) the game freeze for 3-10 seconds. So, playing is not possible.

Also when changing área, it stays loading for a long long time.

In the event viewer i have some erros Event ID: 10016, checking now what is that...

Any other idea besides going back to Windows 7???

I have the same problem, I started to have it from the very same time and it is still a problem even after the 4.0.1 patch.

I updated my drivers too, but it didn't solve the problem, I will try to reinstall DirectX 9...

After taking a break from SWTOR following my exams, the issue on this tread was back when I started the game last week. My computer is still the HP pavillion laptop. I tried to update my graphics card driver on from HP's websites. Did not work. I then tried to update my graphic card driver from AMD's website. That solved the problem not only for SWTOR, but also other issues I have had recently.

Hope this can be of any help for others still having this problem.

i don't read everything but with some test on my side i figured that put the swtor.exe in retailclient folder in compatibility win 8 fix the problem.

I did few things before so if it doesn't work for you i could explain what i did before.

If other people had the same problem
