Frozen loading screen after Launcher

Hey,

Last night I was playing SWTOR fine, no issues at all. I left the game, played some other bits and then tried to log back on but was unable to. I can login on the launcher fine, but when I click play it opens the loading screen but my mouse icon appears and the wheel starts spinning and the screen freezes. (Blue dial in the bottom right does not spin at all - total freeze)

Doing Ctrl + Alt + Del the task manager says SWTOR is not responding and I can't close the program, so i have to restart my machine.

I left it last night, tried again this morning to see if it was a connection or server issue but the exact same issue. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game with no luck. My computer has run no updates and I even tried rolling my drives back to see if it was a compatibility issue but had no luck again.

Please advise.

Try disabling AVG. Been seeing multiple people complain that since the last update by AVG that they can't log into the game. Even adding exceptions doesn't help they have had to either disable or remove AVG and use a different Anti-Virus

I've done that, but at the moment when I click play from the launcher the screen goes black and then goes back to the desktop with the launcher now closer.

Could that be because the servers are down for the patch, or is that something else all together?

Could be due to maintenance. It's not over for another hour. I would try after maintenance.

I experienced the same exact issue. I tried to disable AVG and i tried to run the game as admin, no change.

  • I've had this problem as well. I tried to get on early before work this morning (and before the down time for the patch) but it was frozen. I waited for about five minutes, and it finally 'appeared' to  begin to work, but instead of taking me to the character screen it took me to the server selection screen and had no visible servers to choose from. I noticed AVG updated. I tried again after I installed the SWTOR update this evening and still had the same issue, so I disabled my AVG protection for five minutes and I was able to get in with no problems. It's reactivated now, and the game is still running fine. Guessing the AVG update screwed something up.

He's right. It's just some stupid update to AVG recently that caused it to lock up ToR. Every other game I've played is fine, but for some reason it messes with The Old Republic. All you have to do is disable the protection and it loads up fine. Doesn't work if you turn off the firewall by itself though. Tried that and had the same issue. Hopefully Bioware or AVG will release an update soon enough to bypass this issue.
