I am a newer player to guilds, and I just started my guild. I have 10 people in my guild since I last checked. How can I unlock a guild bank? What exactly does it do (can my members donate money so we can unlock a flagship)?

Non-subs can buy an unlock in the cartel market to donate items. But to donate credits you have to be a sub.

To unlock the guild bank, you need some Credits (I think it were 600000 or some more).
Just go to a guild bank access, you can find on the fleet and click on it. Then you can unlock it. An access is in the galactic trade network and in the stronghold section.
Then every subbed member can access it and pay credits, and add items to it. With the credits there, for eample you can buy a guild stronghold and a guild flagship.
