Login Issue

ensure there is exceptions in the exception lists for your antivirus and firewall , best to remove and re-add them if they exist already

you can try the repair utility at https://answers.ea.com/t5/General-Discussion-Technical/GUIDE-Launcher-Troubleshooting/m-p/4805820/highlight/true#2 just to be sure the launcher files are ok

I will try the link you sent me because my antivirus isn't blocking it as I have double checked. If the link doesn't work I may need to uninstall and reinstall.

The launcher is like a web browser , uses the chromium framework , messages like the login server is unavailable and getting posts of patch 3.1 etc are all indications of a block either by the antivirus or firewall ( or an internet issue but if this a lot usually have the same issue )

Ok I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game, used the launcher troubleshooter that you sent me AND even disabled it on my firewall/antivirus and it's still not working. The same message is appearing that the login service is currently unavailable, so I'm guessing the game is doing maintenance for the upcoming thing on Sept 29?

no the login server is working fine (just logged in from Australia just fine) ,  if you can ping launchpad.swtor.com and it responds ok to the ping then the launcher should be working

if you have just disabled in the program doesn't always mean its disabled ( believe it or not ) , the only way to be sure is to go into task manager and end any av programs running there 

ESET is one for example that is not disabled fully when you think it is disabled for example

The modem could have a firewall enabled and causing issues but that is rare most times it is local issue

Yes, thank you for the link, I have shared it on the SWTOR website for another person who had same problem as me, just in case. I will keep the troubleshooter for reference in case something like this happens again. Thank you
