Making me "activate" my characters again - SWTOR

All of my characters on Swtor have been played in the last week, especially one which i created about 4 days ago, I get on and it says I have to activate all of them. Why? I only have 12 tokens and haven't played for a day, this has to be a bug?

All characters need to be re-activated after the server merge that occurred on the 08 Nov 17 (Link to details)

New limits are per below now not as detailed in that link though

F2P players will have a default of 4 characters per server (up from 2)

Preferred players will have a default of 12 characters per server(up from 6)

Subscribers will have a default of 24 characters per server (up from 12)

The maximum character slots per server has been increased to 100 (up from 52)

Why do they only give 12 activation tokens, do they renew tokens at times?

I am not 100% sure what your asking but hopefully this helps provide an answer

Additional character slots over the 12 provided for preferred can be purchased as an unlock on the cartel market.

I believe preferred can purchase an additional 10 slots over the 12 provided.

The only time i have heard of able to select which characters to activate otherwise is if you subscribe and it lapses when you switch back to preferred it will ask which characters to activate.

This is due to going from subscriber status back to preferred though.
