Once you are done repairing the 19 files, it will start repairing the English Assets, the Movies and the game client. So prepare for a long waiting time; the game is very big and if you have a slow Internet, it just takes time. 🙂
So the 11GB pending from Main Assets 222 won't be downloaded by the repair function, but AFTER the repair has finished, correct? And how do you know that the 19 files mentioned for repair don't already include Movies?

No, the repair function will now immediately patch you to #222, so once the repair is done, it no longer needs to do the 11 GB download because it already downloads those files during the repair.
(By the way, you can delete the 11 GB "assets_swtor_main_0to221" folder because it is no longer needed, but better wait until the repair is over to be on the safe side)
As far as I know, it repairs each part separately, so while repairing the Main Assets, it found 19 wrong files. It won't start repairing the other parts (like English Assets) until it is done repairing the Main Assets.

The entire Main Assets 222 size was 16 GB. I have 11 GB left so I must have downloaded around 5 GB. Will the repair function download the entire 16 GB again? Will the 5 GB I have downloaded so far be of no use?
If this is the case, wouldn't it be better for me to use the .version files I was using earlier, finish the 11 GB left, and THEN run the repair function?
- Anonymous10 years ago
Yes, unfortunately the repair ignores those 5 GB. At first I understood you wrong and thought you already had an old version of the game installed, not that you were downloading from the start; otherwise I would have recommended to just let the 11 GB download finish.
Sorry about that, we all make mistakes and I'll learn from it. For now, you have to let the repair finish because it already repaired some of the Assets. If you interrupt the repair, you will have to download the game from the start again.

Oh, I had backed up the assets_swtor_main_0to221 folder as well as my version files before placing your version files in my folder. Now I just placed back my version files and replaced yours and the download is resuming from where it had left off (i.e. 11 GB remaining). So maybe it's not an utter disaster after all? Now I will download the remaining 11 GB and then run the repair. Sounds good?

That's a relief, glad to hear you still have a backup. Yes, this will work.
It is possible that we get a patch this week. If this happens, make sure to leave the launcher open and let your download finish. Otherwise you will run into the same problem as last week.
But apart from that, you should be good now. And don't forget that after the 11 GB download of the Main Assets, it will also download roughly 6-7 GB of the English Assets, and around 100 MB for the game client but then you should have everything downloaded.

Oh, but I can't keep my laptop on 24x7 and I take it to college at times so the download can't be running all the time...

Don't worry, there is no patch planned for this week yet so unless there will be an emergency hotfix, you should be fine and have all week to download the game.
One thing I forgot, once it has downloaded the remaining 11 GB of the Main Assets, it will probably immediately be finished because it still has the "assets_swtor_en_us.version" and "retailclient_swtor.version" files, and thinks that those were already finished.
You have two choices: You can either delete those two files so that it knows that it has to download them from the start, or you hit the repair button BEFORE hitting play. In both cases, the download size will be roughly the same.

Shall do ! I will post here once Main Assets 222 have been downloaded and installed . And once again thanks for all your support.

Hey @Raidell I have downloaded and installed Main Assets 222 as well as English Assets 226. But when I click the repair option, it tells me that it has to repair and download 84 files. I checked my game folder size and it says
Size: 35.3 GB
Size on Disk: 23.7 GB
And when I enter the game folder, I see that a new folder called "assets_swtor_main_-1to0" has been created on its own.
What should I do? Also, when performing repairs, the launcher does not give me any estimate of how much longer it will take to finish, or the size it is downloading. Would switching to the streaming client (bitraider) at this point be better?

If you are finding the patch is corrupting and going into a repair loop continually with SSN, then yes swapping to bitraider is a good option.
re-trying with a backup of the asset folder only is worthwhile though but not using any patch folders just the asset folder.
Swicthing to BR will covert the existing good files as well so download should be reduced if you decide to go to bitraider
- 10 years ago
@proxos666 Actually, the issue is:
1. The Launcher had finished installing Main Assets 1 and was in the process of downloading Main Assets 221
2. I deleted the Assets folder
3. I used "EaseUS" program to retrieve the deleted Asset files and kept them in the Assets folder again
4. The launcher went on to finish downloading Main Assets 222 and English assets 226 and installed them as well
5. Now upon performing a repair, it is redownloading the entire Main Assets 1 (11.6 GB)
But I thought retrieving the deleted Assets folder would eliminate the need to redownload and reinstall Main Assets 1?
- proxos66610 years agoHero+
In theory it should recognise the assets , there is .version files in both the asset folder and in the main game folder , it is likely these are mismatched so it is downloading again.
@proxos666 right now I'm backing up my entire game folder. After doing so, I will switch to bitraider and see if that helps.
To switch to bitraider, I only have to change one line in the launcher.settings file, right? No folders need to be deleted?
- proxos66610 years agoHero+
Just change SSN to BR
, "PatchingMode": "{ \"swtor\": \"BR\" }"
Edit - you will need to ensure bitraider is enabled though
default is enabled , "bitraider_disable": false
- 10 years ago
@proxos666 thanks. I checked the Assets folder and there are no version files inside. Just one "assets_swtor_en_us_version" text file. I do have .version files in the main game folder though
- proxos66610 years agoHero+
There should be 2 version.txt files in the asset folder
Edit - The ones attached are pre-patch 4.03a versions
- 10 years agoOh. I'll try placing them in the Assets folder if BitRaider does not help.
I have switched to BitRaider and it says "Installing 12.48% (512.00KB/s) and in task manager, the process BitRaider Distribution Web Client is using the internet.
It still seems like its going to download the entire 11.6 GB because its going quite slow. Does this mean retrieving the deleted Assets folder was in vain or should I now try placing those two .text files you have attached in the Assets folder after switching back to the non-streaming client? - proxos66610 years agoHero+
The only thing you can try is stopping the download copy the files in and restart the launcher
It should convert valid files it recognises
- 10 years agoIn streaming mode or non-streaming mode?
- proxos66610 years agoHero+
if you have commenced streaming conversion stay with it
the best way to revert back to SSN if you ever want is to copy the entire asset folder somewhere like desktop , alter the line in the client_settings file back to SSN , once the download starts , stop and close the launcher and copy the entire Asset folder back and start the launcher again.
Edit - @Belgorad for info, I have updated directions here to go from Bitraider back to SSN if needed.
Hey, is there a particular reason that the txt files you have attached are pre 4.03a patch? Wouldn't I require the txt file post the patch?
- proxos66610 years agoHero+
Shouldn't make a lot of difference, apart from wanting to download the latest patch again.
I have attached the latest post patch ones if you want them, but you are best just letting the launcher do want it wants to get back to sorted.
Oh, I was under the impression that you have to redownload the entire game again if you switch from BR to SSN? Also, suppose I have finished half download of Main Assets 1. Now I do the following:
1. Copy the Assets folder elsewhere
2. Make changes in the launcher.settings file from BR to SSN
3. Once SSN starts download, it makes a new folder called "assets_swtor_main_-1to0"
Placing back the Assets folder has no effect because the way the SSN client tracks progress is using the "assets_swtor_main_-1to0" folder if I'm not wrong?
- proxos66610 years agoHero+
It was the case that BR to SSN was a new download , especially if the whole assets folder was deleted.
However pasting the assets back after the download process has started is the recommended method.
I have updated the directions here
The folder called "assets_swtor_main_-1to0" is simply a patch folder not a asset folder , the patch folder is deleted on completion of patching.
Another question I had is, are the .version files present in the game folder used only by SSN or even by BR? A .version file is created only once a particular asset has finished downloading completely or is it used to track download progress?
- proxos66610 years agoHero+
Best of my knowledge the .version are compared against the manifest downloaded from manifest.swtor.com and then compared to the assets that exist in the Asset folder based on the .txt versions on what to expect
Bitraider handles things slightly differently if you go into the bitraider folder you will see a txt file called swtor_swtor this is separate to the launcher logs found in the log folder which are common between SSN and BR. this will show what is occurring additional on the BR side.
