Ping increased in game

I play on east coast servers (Jedi Covenant, Ebon Hawk) and my ping is usually between 30-37ms. But yesterday when I logged on in the morning my ping was at 55ms and stayed in that area all day, going from 55-65ms. This happened a few weeks ago, but it only lasted a day and I assumed it was a node by ISP might have been working on, and again it happened back in June, but again only lasted a day. Logged on this morning and my ping was still around 55ms. But around 8:30 am it went down to between 41-44ms, but it won't go any lower than 40ms. It's weird, since my ping is always around 30-37ms on the east coast server. Went on a Steam game and played on a server I normally play on and my ping was normal there. How do I know if it's a node problem with my ISP? I ran a tracert but don't udnerstand what any of it means and where the problem could lie. I'd share it, but isn't it bad to share those since it has my IP addresses on them?

grab www.pingplotter.com and set it to the server IP address and have it graphing whilst ingame and see what it displays when in-game.

the graph can be saved as a jpg and inserted into a post here

    • If you play on an East Coast server: 159.153.92.28
    • If you play on a West Coast server: 159.153.68.252
    • If you play on a European server: 159.153.72.252

providing your using non routable IP address on your network like 192.168.1.1 it is fine.

here is one of mine from Australia

  • I ran pingplotter for a few minutes while I played (it had my network name and an IP address I think is sensitive on the second hop, so don't really want to share image), but hop 1 was 1ms, hop 2 was around 9ms, hop 3 through 8 hovered anywhere from 16-36, but then after hop 8 through 18 it goes up to 40ms, with the minimum being 39ms (I saw 39ms quick this morning before it went back to between 40-47ms). But round trip says average of 42ms, which is what I'm seeing in-game. My ping goes through 18 hops apparently. Does this mean it's on my ISP or BioWare's end? Also, what is hop 2? I know hop 1 is my router, but what is hop 2? Something with my ISP?

Yes hop 2 is likely the ISP, by the sounds of it routing change has likely occurred on the net with the route you take to the servers.

If it is only going up like 5 -10 ms I wouldn't be worrying about it, like with my ping plot you can see my ping is really low until hop until hop 8 when it crosses the world and I get 300ms at the server which actually is quite playable 🙂

No nothing to fix, its not on your end, and it isn't on biowares end from what you mentioned appears to starts at hop 9 dead smack in the middle.
