Likely an easy way to check it isnt an internet issue is to tether that computer to say your mobile phone and use the GSM network to login and see how the launcher behaves
also if you are now using non streaming SSN you can take that computer to a full clean boot per this link and see how the launcher behaves, also at this point ensure the launcher is starting with administrator rights

@proxos666 All right, so it actually looks like it may be an internet connection issue. Because I tried it with my phone as hotspot and it went (almost) immediately (like within a minute and half).
And in retrospect, I got a new internet provider recently, and all the problems can kind of be traced back then.
But it seems to be the problem only with my computer, since we have another one in the house (connected to the same network, obvs) and there's been no such problems with that one.
Any generic advice of what could be done about it? (Right now, my temporary solution may be to hook my computer into my mobile every time I want to log in, then switch it to the network for actual playing, but wouldn't like to do that every time, plus I have to yet see how it would work when some patch comes up...)

See if changing dns servers has an impact try using say 8.8.8.8
