Problems every time I get SWTOR on a new computer

Hello, so I've been having this issue repeatedly with SWTOR and I don't know what it is. A while ago I started playing playing it and it was fun, then my graphics started to go a bit glitchy until eventually my computer started shutting down whenever it tried to display 3D models (these symptoms started happening for all my games). I have since gotten a new computer and I decided that since nobody else seemed to be having this issue and I got a different computer entirely, it should be fine to give it a try but after a few days of playing my graphics started to go a bit glitchy again, for all 3D games. I haven't had my computer shut off yet but I'm not going to keep playing the game to find out, anyone know what the issue might be and how I could fix it? I fear I might be too far into it now since my graphics are already kind of glitchy but I'm hoping I can still avoid having it get to the point of shutting off completely. I saw some people have said they have been having issues with running the game specifically through steam so I've installed it from the official website now instead, but that hasn't fixed the glitchiness. Sorry if this was a bit of a rant, I'm just confused because the logical conclusion would be that it isn't an issue with the game since others don't seem to be having this issue, but it also isn't an issue with the hardware of my pc since this is a different one, so it must be some mysterious third cause...
