Re: I keep getting disconnected from the game. It was error 9000 a year ago.

@DBWoodynz @proxos666

Sorry, I had to leave in a hurry. I'm back now, tho.

Ok, first of all just to clarify I am not using a laptop, it's a desktop PC and it is pretty well cooled, it's an old game anyway it shouldn't cause any problems of that nature.

Firewall is not an issue because I have turned it off and I have the same problem.
Bit Defender is my antivirus but again I did try with it turned off to no avail, also it usually warns me when it interferes with anything.

Win 10 is up to date AFAIK.

Another option that worked for me was I edited my Local Area Connection - turning on discovery, and changed my TCP/IV4>DNS and gave it an actual DNS server to use rather then auto discover one

I would like to try this if you think it will help, but where would I get the actual DNS server?

I think we need to chat to Ace and find out what exactly he has running on Windows 10... as that bit-defender one the other day spun me out as once upon a time I would have been all over that one from the get go.

I do know that windows 10 constantly updating catches me out on a few of the PC's in the house as it effects some more then others.. again that wouldn't be a gradual disconnect though.

As for the programs I am running on windows 10. In 2013 I think I used to run win 7 iirc, I used to play SWTOR with no programs open everything that wasn't necessary I would end task from the Task Manager. I would basically only run SWOTR and Explorer ( which btw is ludicrous, just immagine no alt tabbing, no music etc.) it was the only way I could play for about 30 mins before randomly getting Disconnected. It sucked, but I played a few weeks like that. I remember I tried to solve the issue back then, it was Error 9000 in 2013, but someone told me Error 9000 was to ambiguous of an error to be solved so after much frustration and failure I gave up on the game. Now I have taken up arms again and want to solve this issue because it has plagued me ever since, also I have a bit of time on my hands and would like to get back into the game (Star Wars ep.VII and all).

Now back to what @proxos666 was saying, the first thing to do is to get my hands on a new network cable and try that.

And also I know you were joking about me switching PCs with my flatmate, but I will do it just to see if the game works, maybe like this we can narrow down the possible causes.

Anyway sorry for my rambling.

Your help is appreciated, have a good one,

Ace Hammerheart.

Given the history it is hard to say what is the best way to move forward.

Bitdefender has caused some issues in the past but they weren't disconnect issues , thread here

Grab hwinfo to monitor temps in any case

Given you are wired ethernet at the moment are you able to use a wireless connection as well ? this would effectively change the adapter being used.

Easiest way to test a different network cable is use your flatmates for 5 - 10 minutes ?

I do use HWMonitor. Temps are normal.

Theoretically I can use a wireless connection, but I don't have the adapter for it.

I will try to use my flatmate's cable. This will take some time tho. I'll give a comment on it when it is done.

    Hey good day,

I have some sort of news...

After messing around with some settings I think I stumbled on to something. I  used amd catalyst to change the power of my CPU. So I found out that if I lower the power the connection lasts little to no time, I'm talking seconds here. When I increase (or indeed max out the power) I seem to get longer connections, this could be a fluke. Anyway I still get DCed randomly after 10-30 mins, but maybe there is a connection here?

Could my CPU be the cause, it's an AMD FX 8120 Black Edition with 8-core amd 16mb total cache.

I've yet to get the other network cable (adapter). I'll switch it with my flatmate today, on monday morning EET (Bucharest time).

    Have a good one,

    Ace Hammerheart
