Re: Moving Game To Micro SD Card

Your shortcut (on the desktop or start menu, wherever it is) probably still points to the old location. To fix it, right-click, go to Properties and enter the new path to the SWTOR directoy.

Alternatively, open the folder from the Micro SD Card, right-click on launcher.exe, create a shortcut and then copy that shortcut to the desktop, replacing your old shortcut.

In any case, I do not recommend putting the game on a Micro SD Card. You will experience very long loading times - like 1-2 minutes to start up the game, minute-long loading screens when going to a planet. The game files should always be on a hard drive or SSD for the best performance.

Okay here are the steps once again:

    • Open the Micro SD Card folder where you have SWTOR installed.
    • You can see a number of files, find the one called "launcher.exe" (or just launcher) with the SWTOR icon.
    • Right-click on that file to open the context menu; then select "Create shortcut" (it's near the bottom above delete).
    • There will now be a second file like "launcher.exe - Shortcut". Copy that file onto the desktop.
    • Now delete the "Star Wars: The Old Republic" shortcut and rename the new shortcut from "launcher.exe - Shortcut" to "Star Wars: The Old Republic".

You can use a shortcut to open a program. You can easily copy the game to another location, the problem is that the shortcut needs to be updated so it points to the correct location. That's why you got the error message "launcher.exe cannot be found", because it was looking in the wrong location.

With these steps, you will have a new shortcut that should point to the correct location.

Of course, you don't need a shortcut. If you want to, you can just open the folder manually each time and double-click on launcher.exe. But it's easier to have a shortcut.

If this is after copying the file onto the SD , try a re-format of the card itself and copy afresh

    How do I do that?

Likely easiest is to right mouse click on that drive letter and select format , just be sure you are formatting the correct drive (sd card)

Now why do you want to put the game on a SD card ? There will be a number of issues with this , biggest one is that the SD card will be formatted as FAT32 and not NTFS , from what I have seen if the install you have is Streaming it will not work on a FAT 32 file system.

You can try and change the game to Non - Streaming per here and then copy that game install over to the SD card and see if it works, but I would recommend an external harddrive formatted as NTFS not a SD card myself.

When I clicked on Format, it is possible that the file system is changed to NTFS, should I do that? And after that what?

    Thank you for your time.

If you format it as NTFS , ensure the game that you are copying works on the hard drive, delete the desktop shortcut for it.

once done copy the entire game folders to the SD card and then find launcher.exe (on the SD card) and right mouse click on it and select "send to desktop create shortcut"  see if it works

Ok, I've done all that, but it asks for permission, I grant it, then nothing happens.

    Solution to this?

  • Right-click the launcher.exe, go to properties, compatibility and select 'run as administrator', apply and try again.

    Nope, still nothing, sorry.

  • Ok, then find your swtor setup or download it from swtor.com, right-click it and select "run as administrator". When it asks you for the installation directory, point it to the folder on your SD card that you copied the swtor files into. After the installation completes, run the launcher.exe (if it doesn't work try run as administrator).

Ok so, I did that. It nows says:

D:\Star Wars-The Old Republic\avcodec-53.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.

But then IT OPENS I put in all my passwords/usernames but it just says loading forever!

    What now?

    @MaxHG25

Run the repair utility here again , it will put new copies of the launcher files again, if that doesnt help , do a global search for avcodec-53.dll and see if another copy exists in the windows common path like c:\windows\syswow64 folder

  • The avcodec-53.dll is a part of SWTOR and should be in the root directory (where launcher.exe is located), running the repair tool should fix it.
