No, there's no workaround right now, this is a bug and many players are having the problem. For gift reactions, the game doesn't take into account whether you romanced them or not.
Tomorrow's patch 4.0.2 will change some of the gift reactions, so try seeing if it works correctly tomorrow. Otherwise, you'll have to take the lower influence gains or wait with the gifts until it is fixed. 🤐
