Re: SWTOR - Black screen then crash to desktop on launch

@Foxeh85

See if playing single monitor makes any difference. preferably the monitor should be connected via DVI and not HDMI for testing

Swtor for better or worse looks at the EDID rather then just current desktop, given the client_setting file reads correct and a black screen crash is occuring then it usually points to video some how and that can then only be the driver or the EDID itself.

So there is a chance the EDID data is mucking things up in which case an EDID override can be created with CRU (link) the override should only have selected the native height and width and frequency with every other resolution deselected.

incorrect EDID can cause what you are seeing and only way to tell is process of elimination without the overrides and you have eliminated most things

sometimes a particular video driver can cause similar and is normally seen immediately after driver upgrade, but in that sort of case going to an older version doesn't have this issue.

    ok im on my main monitor now connected via DVI and not HDMI ..... don't have many options for the monitor setup as the GTX 980 TI i have only has 1 DVI output

    but anyway ..... done that, still getting same issue.

    so what you telling me now is to look for a much older gfx driver to try ?

  • @proxos666

    i've got it working

    i used that hotfix driver link you gave me, did as a clean install this time.

    now its loaded up and into char selection.

    i can't believe how much of a ball ache this game is compared to others lol.

    now i gotta see if i can setup my monitors back how they were and see if it still works

    @proxos666

    Monitors setup back how they were, game is loading up

    thx alot for the help buddy, especially the driver link, i wasn't aware of that being up.

    So anyone else having this issue and has an nvidia card, try those drivers, and make sure you select do a clean install, its a hassle to have to setup profiles again if you have any, but worth it to play this game.

    Thx again Owen.
