Re: swtor not launching 4.2a

@joeee_zafah

Possiblly related on laptops the intel card governs the resolution etc for the Nvidia card

I gather you have tried using both the Intel card and Nvidia card to play to see if there is any difference ?

Post a dxdiag per here to get a look at whats in play

    @joeee_zafah

    This thread here is what led me to believe driver related

    Try this

    Press the [Windows] Key + [R] at the same time

    Copy the following in to the text box and press ok

    %localappdata%\swtor\swtor\settings

    Open the client_settings.ini file in notepad and ensure the following are displayed within

    Fullscreen = false
    D3DFullScreen = true
    RefreshRate = 60

    Check NativeHeight, NativeWidth, Height and Width ( all 4 ) match your monitor resolution.

    Save and close the file.
    Start the game as normal.

    I'm not entirely sure what does what, but on my old laptop I had to constantly uninstall the intel graphics driver.

    Here is the info you requested!  http://hastebin.com/duhifoxaxo.tex

    Thank you!

    Try

    Install this Intel Driver here

    Reboot etc

    then install this Nvidia Driver here

    Ensure the game is set to use the Nvidia Card and not the Intel Card

    also try my previous post

    Ah, very nice, very close, the only thing that I had to change was the fullscreen to false.

    One thing though is that the windows task bar doesn't disappear.

    Right mouse click on the taskbar and select properties and tick "auto hide the taskbar" see if that helps

    Ok, did the autohide taskbar and there's a blank bar at the bottom of the page.

    I suppose I can try these driver links, but I'm not sure how to set swtor to ignore intel / recognize nvidia.

    Can you post the contents of the client_setting file here

    Most should select the Nvidia card within the nvidia control panel program list look for swtor profile and set it to use performance card

    Try this change below by switching to

    D3DFullScreen = false

    FullScreen = true

    Then ensure the Native Height Native Width , Height and Width match the monitor resolution

    ensure the below is set as well

    WindowX = 0
    WindowY = 0

    I posted the client file below, Also found the nvidia control panel and had it detect for swtor before, but all I can do is optimize for it?  Not sure if that's what you mean, however I have been running the game on ultra previously.

    [Renderer]
    AllowColorRemapping = true
    AllowDepthOfField = true
    AmbientNPCCount = 35  <--- delete this line
    D3DFullScreen = false
    doBlobShadows = true
    doShadows = true
    DYDDrawDistancePreset = 2
    EnableBloom = true
    GraphicsDeviceId = 5080
    GraphicsQuality = 6
    Height = 1080
    NativeHeight = 1080
    NativeWidth = 1920
    PerfTestFlags = 4702080
    PlantDensity = 100
    RefreshRate = 60
    ShaderSet = 9
    SpeedTreeDistanceScale = 1.25
    TextureAnisotropy = 16
    TextureQuality = 0
    VerticalSyncState = true
    Width = 1920
    WindowX = 0
    WindowY = 0
    CodeVersionChanged = false
    LastCodeVersionRun = 1
    MeshLODQuality = 1
    AntiAliasingLevel = 4

    Make the changes in Red

    Optimise sounds like Geforce Experience not the Nvidia Control Panel

    I am going by memory here, but i think in the below area is where there should be a setting to select performance card on a laptop

    I just gotta say first you guys are incredible for how much you help us with these problems to make our lives easier and I'm so grateful.

    On another note I am noticing something weird.

    When i turn left or right there is some transparent line that starts at the center of my character and goes to the upper left of the screen diagonally.

    Swtor def didn't do this before and it was happening on Hoth so I thought I'll go to my ship, but it does it there too!

    @joeee_zafah

    Maybe it is screen tearing from vsynch ? just initial thought

    First though go back into the swtor profile in the nvidia control panel and adjust pre-rendered frames to 1 and see if this makes any difference to what you are seeing or it may help gameply if no change just set it back to 3

    other then that go back into the client_settings file and turn off vsynch and see

    VerticalSyncState = false

    Yes!

    VerticalSyncState = false

    was the answer!

    Phew, this game is a bear after updates, but it finally seems like everything is back to normal and even better than before.

    I'll report back if anything starts looking weird, but I think we're good for now!
