Server lag increased?

For some reason, yesterday my ping on Jedi Covenant (and subsequent east coast servers) increased from my usual 35-40 and now hovers around 50-55. Monday it was fine, was playing with around 37 ping, the usual. Don't know what changed. On Harbinger it's around 88-95, which is normal since I'm on he east coast, New York to be exact. Doing a speed test shows my ping to be around 16-25. Is there increased traffic in the game or something? Anyone else having this issue? Seems a weird thing to ask about considering it's not major lag, but it's just kinda irritating it increased a little. Restarted computer and router and modem yet still it persists. Possibly a game issue then?

Doesn't appear to be anything on your end, it is more just how the packets are routed across the internet.

I was with one provider here in Australia and ping to west coast was 170ms , changed providers and now get 300ms ......

This is all due to different routing .... VPN like i mentioned below is the only way for me to get it back to 170ms from Australia.

To show what a VPN does for me

see picture , Internet normal routing is 300 - 400 ms , with the VPN I get 145ms ingame ping instead, and from Australia that is damn good.

Alright, thank you so much proxos for putting my mind to rest. Like I said, I'll just deal with the extra 15 ping, as it's not bad or game changing. Really appreciate the help!

Same here, Jedi Covenant. Yesterday (14 April), the lag spikes started. I did the known to be biased speedtest.net and pingtest.net and they returned great numbers. Right now I have 5 bars on my connection (40ms) but it will suddenly drop to a single red bar. I haven't been disconnected yet but it's almost as fast as being disconnected when it spikes. Of course, the second I start tracert, the connection clears. You have to ignore packet loss on any *.level3.net because they are always 100% loss anyway.
When I started typing this (and waiting for tracert), the connection was bad. 275 second later when tracert finished, it was 5 bars again.

Use www.pingplotter.com set to the server as mentioned below , you can graph over time with that unlike a tracert

See if anything appears at the time when it drops

Mine turned out to be something inside my ISP stream. A flash reset of the modem and a resynch fixed it. I'm now 43ms with 2ms jitter and no packet loss. It looks great now.

What's a flash reset of the modem and a resynch? Your ping is 40ms, which is around what mine use to be and now it's constantly at 50-55 and might try what you did. Im not getting red bar lag spikes, but the little increase is still bugging me.

It's something my ISP did from their end, sending a signal from them to my modem which caused it to recycle. I had reset it myself using the reset button and also powering off and back on but it didn't clear it. They have upgraded the lines around my area and my modem didn't refresh itself to accomodate it and they had to force it. They also said I should bring my current modem into the office and pick up a new one. So I guess they saw something is just not right in general with mine.
In this case, my problem is entirely on my end. Old hardware on an upgraded grid and my modem is not keeping pace. I only had problems in the game so assumed, wrongly, that it was just in the game.
