Stuck in Preferred Status
On Tuesday, Oct 22, I tried to use a friends referral link to play the new Onslaught expansion but when I logged into Swtor it still said my account was still in preferred status.

Referral links are not subscriptions and would not give access to the new story content or expansion. Did you purchase a subscription?
Yeah but one of my guild members was able to use a ref link three days ago and he is now playing onslaught. Even if I didn’t want to play onslaught shouldn’t my status have changed to subscriber because I used a reference link?
I haven’t bought a sub, just used a red link.

No referral links do not make your a subscriber and do not give access to new content. I can't see your friends account or tell if they are a subscriber or not. If they did get the content, then that is a bug that would need to be fixed since they should not have access from a referral link. I've honestly never heard of that happening before.
You would need to subscriber to gain access to the new content. This is done to prevent people from abusing he referral links to get access to content.
