Stuck on a loading screen after selecting my character

I recently got this game after seeing it was on Steam and everything seemed fine only big problem was it was a bit laggy at times. After I finished character creation it showed the prologue title crawl and then a cutscene of a small ship flying off of a star destroyer then it went to a loading screen which was taking a really long time. I though it was my computer and I needed to restart so I close the game and restarted my pc. Once my pc was fully booted up I tried again but it was taking forever again so I went to make some food and when I got back it was on the character select screen, I thought that it just logged me out cause I took to long and so I selected my character again and this time sat through the whole thing and it never loaded the actual game and instead just when right back to character select. I know the game didn't just freeze then log me out cause the bar was moving, the icon in the bottom right was spinning and the music was playing. Anyone have a clue how to fix this?
