Suddenly cutscenes have no sound.

Everything was working fine for weeks, then suddenly in cutscenes, the sound apparently stopped working.**

All other sound continues to work, and I still hear the background audio going on during the cutscene, but I can no audio from the people talking in the cutscenes!

This really ruins the game and is made worst that there is no way to replay the cutscene.

I have restarted the game, rebooted the computer - all for nothing.

Again, all sound in the game is fine except the cutscenes have no volume.**

** To be honest if I max all the volume sliders , I can just barely hear a symbol or two, volume so low it is impossible to hear, and of course then every other sound is blasting my ears off.

All this just started today on April 9th, just after I bought some cartel coins to go premium.

SO I got this damn game bug, and no way to report the bug or get any support.

  • Of all the stupid things it is a hardware issue - if i fiddle with the headphone connection it will come back on - for a bit, strange that it was only cutting out for cutsceen audio, but I am guessing it was only recorded to left ot right and my headphones were only playing the other side.

Run a game repair intiially you likely use streaming launcher

Non-Streaming launcher - Log into the launcher but don't click Play. Check for small letters "ST" in the bottom left corner.
If this is NOT present, With the new launcher after login , select the username pulldown on the top right and select settings, then press repair.

Streaming launcher - If the letters "ST" is present, close the launcher, right mouse click on the game shortcut,
select open file location and delete the BitRaider folder. Then start the launcher

When I tried to start my game launcher it would only give me an error "The login service is currently unavailable" until I ran the launcher repair utility.

( See issue : The login service is currently unavailable )

After I got  that sorted and running again, and noting that "ST" WAS present, I did delete the BitRaider folder and then start the launcher, which again went through a file verification and download.

I entered another cutscene and the problem persist -- the cutscene plays, but the in cutscene audio is so low as to be unhearable - if I max out both my hardware volume and the game sliders I can BARELY hear some dialog under all the background sounds and music - and of course when the cutscene ends My ears are almost blasted off my head with the cranked volume.

Fom that I conclude that the data files are good and intact, because they are playing, but something is screwed up with my settings causing the volume inside the cutscenes to play a a significantly reduced audio.

So basicly still no cutscenes - which realy ruins the game,  Any other ideas?   Once I get sound in cutsendes going again I am read to restart the chapter to replay all the cutscenes I have missed.

I'm am not sure what could cause the sound in just cutscenes to go low if they where working ok recently

One thing you can try is close the game and launcher and go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\BioWare\Star Wars-The Old Republic\swtor  and delete just the file called diskcachearena , this is the games cachefile and a fresh one is auto created when you next start the game.

OK - I was using headphones plugged into my laptop.

When I unplugged the headphones I could hear the cutscene speech just fine, but nothing with the headphones plugged in.

Doesn't make any sense to me.  I don't think the game detects headphones and changes something .

Would only be a different sound driver , does a utility come with the headphones to adjust sound ?

  • NOPE - they are just generic audio headphones plugged into the earphone jack.  Was working fine b4 , now it is not.  I am puzzled.
