SWTOR Crashing GPU Driver

Since the release of 4.0, SWTOR has been causing my graphics driver to crash and I cannot figure out the reason why. This isn't the first post about it; in fact back in 3.2 customers reported similar issues. I am reaching out here because those those forums were not updated with solutions to the issue.

My current desktop set up is:

History thread: http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=809922&page=2

I was able to look up information on the crashes from the reliability monitor. Here is the information:

12 GB RAM

240 GB SSD

AMD Radeon R7 370 4G GPU

AMD FX(tm)-8320* Core 3.5GHz CPU

    @K43P

    Any issue is frustrating , I haven't  seen many with issues with a 770 , 970 and 980 seem to crop up a bit and majority are evga cards unfortunately

    not sure what to suggest with the 770 given the 980 is working fine in the same system ?

    Have you tried DDU to remove all trace of the video driver and do a clean install , just in case it is affecting the 770 for some reason.

    Edit - in case relevant and given swtor heats up a system nicely there is this report of a 760 remaining on max frequency with the latest drivers , that may cause some cards to crash due to heat

    There is no problem about heat, my GPU never overpass 50°c.

    I did use DDU to remove all driver before installing it again.

    My display software crash really randomly. with no particuliar reason, no heat, just in game while playing ☹️

    Edit : Its not an EVGA, it's a Gainward

    Edit2 : i've read something intresting : the issue car happen if used with windowed GSYNC, i'll try to play in Full screen GSYNC and activate GSYNC only with fullscreen.

    That's EXACTLY my issue with my AMD. It plays other games fine, even with playing SWTOR the temperature goes as high as 66, stays as low as 60. SO... yeah, hard to say what to do here.

    BTW nothing worked, so i just stopped my Premium acc and uninstalled the game, because i'm bored

    Too bad, i really like to play SWTOR.

    i can confirm : no Kernel crash since 3 days playing other games

  • I also am having a similar issue, after downloading windows 10, I have a Sapphire R9 280x Vapor x, ASUS M9A97 2.0 L.E mobo. All of my drivers and mobo bios are up to date. The game just crashes randomly the card is only a couple months old, I spent a few hundred bucks on it and prior to windows 10 / 4.0 ran the game full speed beautifully.

    is the error I get. I only get the error playing swtor.. playing battlefield 4 or dragon age no errors, I'm patient, I thought that one of the windows 10 patches would cover this issue, or the Catalyst patches or your patches. Catalyst and Windows both say the issue is on the Swtor side of this.

    Oh no ☹️.

    Though I'm confused if it's the game or the video card. I switched out my new AMD card for my old nVidia GT 640, and the game works just fine though I miss the higher FPS rate.

    @alberteje66

    The game is using Directx 9 if the NVidia card is fine , this points to an issue as mentioned earlier as being the AMD video drivers or the Card itself.

    Why first step is always a clean install of the video drivers, this relates to @ojibemukwa as well , best utility is DDU to remove all trace of the video drivers.

    After a clean install of video drivers and it persists, and swapping the video card out whilst another AMD card would of been best , given the Nvidia card is fine strongly suggests a card issue.

    Trialing a previous version of video drivers is also worthwhile.
